I have been quite fortunate during this pregnancy (maybe because it’s my first) to be able to stay mobile without limitations. Because of this, I sometimes think I am Superwoman forgetting that there is a growing bump that has its own set of needs. Sure, I’m not going to do anything crazy like skydive or lift a ton of weight, but who knew there were simple things us pregnant ladies should stay away from like certain chores?
Girl ,if you told me I could get out of household chores because I was pregnant, I would have made this a full-time career. No, seriously though, we have to be careful with how much we clean (I know nesting comes into play towards the end) and the types of household activities we perform as it can cause a strain on the baby and/or our bodies.
So sit back, relax and put your feet up cause here are some household chores not to do while pregnant. Should your man complain, just tell him, sorry boo, but doctor’s orders!
5 Household Chores NOT To Do While Pregnant
Cleaning the kitchen and bathroom
One major no-no all pregnant women should stay far away from is the use of household cleaners. Though they won’t burn off your eyebrows like certain commercial chemicals, they can still be harmful to the baby. Just think about those chemicals on the back of the label you can’t pronounce. Note: If you really can’t get out of cleaning areas that would usually require chemicals, try creating natural cleaning agents with things like baking soda, vinegar or lemon juice.
Taking out the trash
Though I wouldn’t think this was a big deal, I can’t tell you how many times my over-paranoid husband yells at me for constantly bending down – and I’m not even that big yet (take several seats, babe)! After thinking about it, he does have a point as too much bending and squatting can put unnecessary strains on our body–especially in that tummy and back region. Because of this, he collects all the trash around the home and takes it out as needed. Am I complaining? Nope.
Moving furniture
This is a no-brainer here since you can really over-exert yourself possibly straining areas you don’t want strained. Though this is not too common of a household practice, resist the temptation to act like an HGTV decorator and move your furniture around. If you really want something put elsewhere, get someone else to do the manual labor. All you have to do is stay fabulous and call the shots.
Laundry
Ooh how this is music to my ears because I hate doing the laundry. Yet another task for someone else, laundry is not ideal for expecting moms to be. For starters, there’s all that bending and and sometimes squatting if something were to fall out of the basket. We already know what the deal is on that. But did you know that too much heavy lifting can cause preterm labor symptoms? You may not think those laundry baskets are heavy but oh child how them pounds can add up when its full.
Mopping/Vacuuming
This list really keeps getting sweeter and sweeter. A two for one combo, preggers need not lift a mop or a vacuum. As we already have to deal with the burden of extra weight and pressure around various or hell all parts of our body for that matter – the last thing we need to do are activities that can jeopardize our lower back region. Therefore, let someone else do that mopping and vacuuming.
