When you want to do something nice for your guy, you either have to do something “cool” (something he can still feel manly about accepting) or, you just have to blow him away so he’s too busy gushing to realize he let his guard down. These 14 little things will do the latter.
A surprise getaway
No buddy of your boyfriend’s is going to tease him for this one: they’ll just be so jealous he gets to drink by a pool in Hawaii (or even a local resort if you can’t afford to fly somewhere). There’s nothing like a vacation—and a surprise one at that—to re-boot the sparks.
A subscription/delivery service
There are tons of great “manly” ones out there like the Bacon of the Month club that sends subscribers a box of hand-selected, incredible bacon from little farms around the country, every month. You could probably even set up a monthly delivery of bottles of his favorite wine.
A full-length massage
Not a little back rub while you’re watching TV, but a real massage. Rent a massage table or borrow one from a masseuse friend, dim the lights, get professional-grade oil and give your guy an hour to 90-minute massage. He’ll forever associate you with utter relaxation. Trust us: every guy wishes his girlfriend would do this.
His chores when he’s stressed
More than a superfluous gift, men appreciate practical, tangible gestures. If your guy is having a particularly difficult week, and he comes home to find you had his broken toilet fixed, and stayed on hold with his doctor’s office that always puts him on hold for an hour to schedule his appointment for him, he’ll realize you really care about making his life easier and better.
A text of the treat to come
Another thing you can do when your guy is having a rough day, is send him a photo of the ingredients for his favorite meal you’re making him for dinner, the lingerie you’ll be wearing, and the show in the background you’ve recorded for him. It’s just your way of showing that you care about motivating him when he’s feeling defeated.
Book that thing he’s always wanted to do
We all have those things that, if we could just do them, we would feel so alive. We’d feel those moments couldn’t have been better spent, and we’d be proud of ourselves for trying something new. But, of course, life gets in the way and we don’t do them. Pay attention: does your guy say, “I’ve always really wanted to parasail/climb a certain mountain/pet an exotic animal”? Set it up.
Make his favorite guy food
Women rarely think to do this! When you cook for your man, you think of making something healthy or gourmet. As for fried chicken or jalapeno poppers, you figure he can just get those at a bar. But…have you ever tried to make fried chicken? It’s not easy! Making your guy’s favorite “guy” food is the right way to get to his heart through his stomach. And it’s a meal he’s happy to brag to his friends about.
Fly in his best friend
Does your guy have a best friend who lives across the country and he never gets to see? Everybody dreams of having their best long distance friend show up for a surprise visit, but it’s hard for that friend to do without knowing your guy’s schedule, whereabouts etc. But when he has a girlfriend to set it all up…that’s perfect.
Fly in a family member
This will have the same effect as flying in a friend, times 100.
Buying him something he won’t buy for himself
There’s probably something your guy always talks about getting—something that is the ultimate luxury or just most fun item to have in the home—that he wont get because he can’t justify spending the money. Get it for him!
Oral during your time of the month
Maybe you already do this and if you do, you deserve a medal. Most women just close down for business when they’re menstruating. If they’re not getting any, nobody is. You will be considered the best girlfriend in the world if you give your guy oral every night that you’re on your lady time.
Tickets to Disneyland
We’re totally serious with this! Disneyland brings out the inner child in everybody. Nobody is too old to get giddy over Disneyland. Instead of spending $300 on two nights in a hotel, spend it on park-hopper tickets and a room at the Disneyland hotel. It’s a treat most couples don’t think about giving themselves, but now that you have “grownup money” you can do it! It will bond you to act totally childish with each other.
Tickets for him and a friend
Most girlfriends buy tickets to a game, concert or event for them and their boyfriends. But if you buy tickets for your guy and his best friend to see their favorite team play, this shows him you care that he is happy in his individual life, outside the relationship, and that you value his friendships as much as he does.
Make a home video (no, not that kind)
If your guy is away for a long time on business or seeing family, make him a video with a personal message. You can dress sexy in it if you want, or do something silly. You will look awkward, but that’s the point: he’ll love that you were willing to embarrass yourself to show him how much you care.
