Juggling career, family and (much needed) alone time can cause anxiety for mothers. It seems that there is always something to be done. Relaxing feels like a guilty pleasure. A nose needs blowing! Dinner won’t make itself! Homework must be checked!

We hear you Super Mom. Here are a few ways you can combat mommy anxiety:

1. Laughter decreases stress and boost mood and optimism.

Tap into your joyous and vivacious side to make you feel that there is more to life than just work! Every individual should have time to relax and enjoy a comedy movie, show or family time. According to workingmother.com, laughter can work to every mother’s advantage as it decreases stress and boosts optimism. So, there is a greater chance that you will find and keep your sanity with a sense of humor.

2. Go to the gym! Exercise boosts energy and metabolism.

The body feeds off daily exercises and workout routines. Even something as minor as a stretching at the office or short jogs can alleviate pressure on the human body. For mothers, it can increase more energy and metabolism which is needed to stir your inner beauty. A few sit-ups, lunges or jumping jacks will provide lasting energy, according to workingmother.com.

3. Set up a flexible work schedule with with your boss.

At times, working double-duty at home and work can put a damper on your emotional, physical, and mental state. If you are feeling super stressed, speak with your boss to map out a flexible time schedule. Make an solid argument as to why a different work schedule would benefit you and the company.

3. Create some alone time for you and your partner.

You have designated time with the children, but have you forgotten about your hubby? Working in high-gear can sometimes be a drag when it interferes with your relationship. Set up a schedule of date nights and stick to it!

4. Spend quality time with the children.

In the midst of all the drama and fast-paced lifestyle, the children don’t know what it is like to see their mother happy and pressure-free. As much as you’ve maintained a roof over their heads, kept them well-fed and pampered, they would rather spend time with a calm and spirited mother. Or someone whose available for field trips, social activities or movie nights. Who can blame them?

5. Pamper yourself by signing up for spa and massage treatments.

Mothers absolutely need spa and massage treatments as a back-up plan to their hectic lifestyles! Locate a nearby spa center or shop to take the edge off a bit.  It also wouldn’t hurt to sign up for annual or monthly spa treatments with your husband as the babysitter watches the kids.

7. Plan a seasonal vacation.

Treat yourself or the entire family somewhere special outside of town. As you take a brief vacation, your partner could step in to fulfill his parenting duties or the whole family can spend quality time with each other. Maybe a hiking trip through the hills, a European trip, or a Caribbean cruise can make you rekindle that blended, family experience.

8. Read a good book.

Ever dig into a good book and just get lost in the story? Juicy books with over-the-top storylines or well-written tomes by award-winning authors, can offer an escape from the everyday stresses of life.

9. Volunteer for a special initiative.

There are many volunteer opportunities available in wide variety of fields. Find something that is suited your expertise and skills. There is no greater privilege than knowing you’ve changed someone’s life through community service. Make it a family affair and have the kids help out too!

10. Plan a get-together with friends.

Lastly, social events or activities at the house can diffuse stress in the household. If you plan accordingly during the weekends or holidays, invite some friends and family over for dinner, games or movie nights. This is a way to assemble groups and lessen tension for you.
