How many of you know a woman who carries hot sauce in her purse? How many of you are that woman?

There’s no need in being PC about it, black people, for the most part,  love them some hot sauce — yes, love them some. When we can’t get some of this thin, red glaze on our meals, all hell is likely to break loose — and we don’t want none of that Tabasco sauce as a substitute either. Ask any random black person what their favorite brand of hot sauce is and they’ll probably tell you without skipping a beat, and what follows that name is a long list of things we love to put hot sauce on, like…

Chitterlings

I don’t mess with these things, but I know plenty of us do and when it comes time to sauce them up, you already know what’s the topping of choice: hot sauce.

Popcorn

My cousin’s were the ones to teach me this “hood gourmet” style of popcorn. After popping a bag of Pop Secret at home, they’d douse the bag with hot sauce and eat ’til their fingertips were completely red. I, personally, never got into the whole soggy popcorn thing, but plenty of us do.

Fried chicken

We already know this one, and truthfully we’ll smash the bird without anything on it, but it’s even better for us with a little spice.

Eggs

I don’t have an explanation for the scrambled egg- hot sauce obsession, but I’ve seen it enough times to know this combination isn’t really considered “odd” to most black people.

Pizza

Tomato sauce just isn’t enough for us, huh?

Pork Rinds

What you know ’bout this!? I haven’t seen anybody with pork rinds in a minute, but I fondly recall days of eating these crispy snacks with just a sprinkle or two of hot sauce back in the day.

Fried fish

A lot of black folks would say you haven’t had good fish until you’ve had it with hot sauce. Some of us even go the extra mile and make a little tartar-hot sauce mixture to add flavoring to our catfish — you know what I’m talking about don’t you??

French fries

Because ketchup just isn’t enough, I suppose.

Burritos

As my coworker pointed out this morning, most burritos even come with the hot sauce. So while we may not be alone in sprinkling lots of it around, we definitely love it as much as the next burrito lover.

Greens

Greens just aren’t greens — to most black people — without hot sauce to give them an extra kick.

Potato Chips

Like popcorn and pork rinds, potato chips are another one of those snacks that don’t really need anything else on them, but for some reason we love to adorn it with some spice just ‘cuz.

What other foods do you put hot sauce on?
