Fall is really here and so as you tuck away your strappy sandals and polish up those fierce boots, you might be ready for some new looks to go with the new season. Well, most folks pocketbooks’ aren’t exactly overflowing, so instead of digging further into debt, here are few ways to get some new looks out of what’s already in your closet.
Mix It Up
You always wear that purple shirt with that black skirt and you always wear that grey pinstriped suit set together. Mix it up a bit. Get out of the idea that you have permanent outfits in your closet and think more in terms of pieces that can be used to create looks.
Repurpose
Who says a necklace can only go around your neck? Try something a little different. Create a Hot bun and drape one of your favorite (durable) necklaces around it. Play with it until it’s secure. The look is unique, fun and totally you. Jazz up an otherwise plain purse with a broach. There are no limits to repurposing. Have fun creating new uses.
Create Characters
Think of women (real or fictional) whose style you admire and think about what they would pick from your closet to wear and how they would wear it. You’re in a vixenish mood, so let Rihanna pick your outfit for that evening out on the town. Bring your office a little glamour by letting Desiree Rogers put together your power look for that big presentation. Use what you have to create the image you’re trying to project. Visualize and make it happen.
Wildcard Shoes
As you know, shoes can make or break an ensemble. Don’t get stuck in your grandmother’s rules about wearing shoes that are the same color as your purse. Add a pop of color, an unexpected texture or an interesting pattern to your look with your shoe choice. You have some winners in your closet, get out of the black pump rut.
Rethink Neutrals
Black and brown are the typical colors people think of when it comes to neutrals. Expand your neutral horizon. Dip into navy, gray and even maroon. Once you are able to use other colors as neutrals, that changes the way you accessorize and the colors you choose to complement your ensemble.
