Relationships on television shows and in movies can be like a gift and a curse. Sometimes they can be so outlandish that you’re glad it’s not real. But then there are the times that you see a couple with issues you’ve seen in your own relationships and you instantly love them.  These are some of our favorite onscreen couples in television and movies. Who is your favorite?

Nina & Darius

Hands down, Nina and Darius from Love Jones are my favorite couple in television or movies.  Sure they had a lot of issues that they bought on themselves because they were playing games but they also had the best chemistry.  They clicked so well in front of the camera that I wanted Larenz and Nia to be in a relationship off camera.

Martin & Gina

Who didn’t laugh when Martin and Gina from television series Martin were on screen together?  There was something so natural and easy going about them.  I always said, “I have to be in a relationship with someone who makes me laugh just like that.”  These two were amazing until they started having issues behind the scenes that affected the quality of work we saw.

Sinclair & Overton

This onscreen couple from Lining Single was also lots of fun with perhaps some of the goofiest and most aloof scenes I’ve seen on television.  Sinclair seemed brand new to a life of dating and Overton made it much easier.   They were together until the last day the show aired.

Monica & Quincy

This is my second favorite onscreen couple in movies or television.  Monica and Quincy were the “we’ve been together forever” couple and we wanted to keep it that way even though most of their relationship took place during their high school years. As most of us know, since we’ve all seen Love & Basketball, they ran into some serious speed bumps along the way but it was all worth it in the end.  It definitely made us love them more when we found out Sanaa and Omar were actually dating in real life!

Lem & Bird

“Lem and Bird? Who are they?” I can hear you now and hello, they’re from Soul Food. Now while I’ve loved all versions of this couple, the original one (played by Nia Long and Mekhi Phifer) will always be my favorite.  They made newlywed love look like a good time (remember the bathroom scene).

Dwayne & Whitley

Yes, I put Dwayne and Whitley on here!  Of course it was years on A Different World before they actually became a couple but when they did? It always seemed like the right thing to have happened.  Who will ever forget when Dwayne showed up to her wedding to another man and begged her to marry HIM?!  Not me – I keep that episode on my dvr.
