As more states roll out new laws and light the way toward legalization, and as more famous faces are seen rolling up, weed is going from taboo to trendy. To celebrate 420, we’re highlighting some of the most iconic pot-loving Black celebs whose love of getting high is loud. Whether they’re toking for wellness or just vibing, these stars deserve a spot in your blunt rotation.

1. Rihanna

RiRi’s life is a series of iconic, photographic moments. Including the time she rolled a blunt on her bodyguard’s head while she sat on his shoulders at Coachella. She’s been photographed multiple times over the years with blunt in hand, shamelessly showcasing her love for herb. She can probably recommend a good smoking playlist to keep the vibes immaculate.

“The vape pen has changed my life,” Goldberg wrote in the Cannabist magazine about her love of vaping. “I’m not exaggerating. In fact, her name is Sippy. And with each sip comes relief — from pressure, pain, stress, discomfort.”

Goldberg suffers from glaucoma which causes her excruciating headaches. She uses her vape because “it relaxes everything and calms everything.”

4. Kamala Harris

While on the campaign trail in 2019, then-Senator Harris appeared on The Breakfast Club where she revealed that she used to smoke while in college.

“I have. And I inhaled – I did inhale. It was a long time ago,” she told the hosts. When she ran for president in 2024, Harris platform included calls for the legalization of marijuana at the federal level, tweeting: “I will legalize recreational marijuana, break down unjust legal barriers, and create opportunities for all Americans to succeed in this new industry.”

​​In his 1995 memoir Dreams of My Father, Obama writes about his frequent use of weed starting in high school when he would smoke “in classmate’s sparkling new van,” “in the dorm room of some brother” and “on the beach with a couple of Hawaiian kids.” He’s since given up the habit and advocated for the regulation of cannabis similar to cigarettes or alcohol. 

6. Rick James

The late, great Rick James loved marijuana so much he wrote a hit record about it. He once said sparking a J helped spark his musical creativity. His wrote the song, “Mary Jane” for his debut album as an ode to the herb that “makes me feel alright, makes my heart sing!”

It’s no secret to any casual fan that Snoop smokes and his music has influenced a whole culture around burning bush. The rapper has a professional personal blunt roller and launched his own weed line, Leafs By Snoop, in 2015. Marijuana “makes me feel the way I need to feel,” he told Esquire in 2008.

The Academy Award-winning actor strongly believes pot should be legalized everywhere and until it is, he’ll take it how he can get it.

“How do I take it? However it comes! I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it,” Freeman told The Daily Beast, adding that it helps him with fibromyalgia pain in his left arm.

Method and Red and a blunt make the perfect trio. The pair of rappers starred in the cult classic How High about two pothead best friends who prioritize THC over their SATs and get hilarious results. Method Man has gone on to create his own weed brand: TICAL.
