Being Nice Vs. Being Kind = Being Selfish Vs. Selfless

Kindness comes from a true desire to see the lives of others around you improve. It’s about genuinely caring about the betterment and well-being of others. There are no selfish motives behind it. For that reason, you can differentiate a nice person from a kind person by who they show either trait towards.

Nice people will often exhibit a lot of nicety to people who are “above” them – people who can do something for them. Then they’ll be cold or dismissive to people they perceive as below them, or unable to help them in any way.

Kind people show compassion, warmth and empathy to everyone – including and most importantly people who can do nothing for them. Real kindness takes strength. It requires effort and it isn’t something you turn on and off depending on who is present. You show kindness to everyone, regardless of social status, financial status or other superficial standings.
