The saga between Chris and Paige should have wrapped a long time ago. And after he told her he wanted a divorce last week, I thought that was the case. But Paige’s smile when Chris whispered in her ear should have let me know that we hadn’t seen the last of these two in a room together.
Thankfully, for the first time all season Paige advocated for herself—even in the midst of what I would describe as a very toxic and unnecessary meeting with his ex-fiancée.
But as always, we’ll get to all of that.
Before we do, let’s discuss the other couples and their issues (which all pale in comparison.)
See what happened and what we thought about all of it on the following pages.

Haley and Jacob
First of all, can I just say that every friend they showed in this episode had some spot on advice for the couples. Every last one of them was able to look their friends in the eye and deliver the raw, and even uncomfortable truth. And I loved to see it. Sometimes we can be in our own heads too much. And the people who love and know us best can be some of the best people to gather us when we’re behaving irrationally.
For Haley and Jacob, it was Haley’s friend who tried to tell her that while Jake being obsessed with the 80s is very odd, it doesn’t warrant throwing the towel in on a marriage in which you willingly walked. She let Haley know that pulling away from Jacob wasn’t fair to him, herself or this process.
I don’t know what the future holds for these two. At this point, it could still go either way. But I hope that Haley heard her friend out. Because she was talking right.

Virginia and Erik
For as much relationship experience as he purports to having, Erik is the one who appears to need the most guidance in his relationship with Virginia. Yeah, sis is wild and free and could possibly make some adjustments in her new role as a wife. But that strikes me as light work compared to the mental overhaul Erik needs to do with himself and his thinking.
I loved that his friend got him together as well, telling him that he needs to stop lording his past relationship experience over Virginia’s head as if he has everything figured out because he’s been married and has lived with exes before. Every time he goes down that road, I want to shake him and say but it didn’t work out. You and Virginia are both on “Married at First Sight” trying to figure it out. He could stand to relax a lot. All of that nervous, worried, paternal energy is not attractive.
As worried as Erik was about Virginia’s male friends that offered some pretty solid advice in telling him that the last thing he should be trying to do with Virginia is try and change her. No one takes kindly to that, especially the type of woman who enjoys her independence. She doesn’t have to ask for permission. Telling you, is keeping you updated and informed. If you have a problem with something she’s doing, express that. But she doesn’t have to ask a damn thing because she’s grown.
Ryan and Clara
I think Ryan is likely a decent guy. But he seems guarded—all the way around. Guarded with showing perhaps his true personality on camera, guarded with Clara, and guarded with the idea of love in general. Just to be clear, this has nothing to do with him not wanting to take shots with Clara’s friends. If he didn’t want to that’s on him. He wasn’t judging her for doing so. He just didn’t feel comfortable. And she should be able to keep it moving whether he engages or not. Again, he seems like a nice person so I think there’s hope. Clara is obviously interested. We’ll is see how it pans out.
Also Clara becoming increasingly sexually frustrated. She outright told his friends that she didn’t understand why some sexual acts were ok but not others. Maybe that was a little inappropriate to share in a room full of friends. Maybe that’s a conversation she needs to have with Ryan. Hopefully, they’ll start doing enough to hold sis over.
Vincent and Briana
There’s not much to say about Briana this week other than the fact that she was very patient and mature when it came to speaking to Vincent about her jokes that he took as “disrespect.” She did the right thing in acknowledging his feelings and also admitting that the two are still learning one another. It’s not going to be perfect off the bat. I don’t think she needed to apologize if she wasn’t sorry. But now she knows how sensitive he is—she can make necessary adjustments. And they’ll be good.
Kudos to Vincent for not leaving that apartment over an issue that could have been resolved with a couple of minutes of conversation. Like Briana told him, if he needed a minute to cool down go to the next room. In a marriage, you can’t be quick to walk off every time there’s a disagreement. That’s just too childish and nothing is accomplished that way. Had Vincent gone home, he would have made a bad situation 1000x worse.
Personally, I loved that when Vincent told his friend about their little tiff, he laughed dead in his face. Like bruh. You’re too sensitive and too in your head. We’re all entitled to our feelings. And he had every right to communicate to Briana that he doesn’t like to play like that. But what she did to him was not “disrespect,” it just hurt his feelings. And in this relationship, he’s going to have to grow in expressing his true emotions.

Chris
Y’all know I don’t have much for Chris. Bruh is a hot mess. And after his conversation with the Pastor and his friend, it’s clear that he doesn’t listen to anyone. And now we know why he’s in the predicament that he’s in.
Thank God! The pastor was ready, willing and able to call Chris out on his unseemly behavior. He didn’t hold back any punches when he told Chris walking away from the marriage was selfish, embarrassing and extremely immature. Oh yes! I loved to see it.
And what did Chris do—picked up and started looking in it. Then he literally hid his face like a disobedient dog.
The boy needs help, stat!
Paige
I have to give it to Paige this week. For the first time we saw her advocate for herself in a very powerful way. Although I don’t know if I would have agreed to sit down with Chris and his ex-fiancee, when Paige showed up she was the picture of grace, class and poise—with just the right dash of petty.
I fully believe that it was Chris’ intention to have these two women fighting over him. But he should have known better.
Paige told the two of them they looked jazzy lol! And she and Mercedes launched into their discussion.
I don’t know whether to trust Mercedes or not—about anything but I did like the fact that she told Paige that there were no plans to reconcile with Chris. (I’d bet that that’s no longer the case but it was good to hear in the moment.) Not to mention it proved that Chris was once again caught in yet another lie.
Finally(!) Paige listed Chris’ indiscretions and his “duplicitous” nature. The word choice in combination with Paige’s soothing voice was perfection. He’s been telling Paige one thing, (I’ll put you first. I might fall in love with you.) while consistently pursuing a relationship with his ex.
When Paige said she went in with pure intentions—suggesting Chris did not—he got upset. I don’t know how he felt sleeping with a woman while he was auditioning to be married to another was pure. But Chris is illogical—to say the least.
In the midst of her poise, Paige did manage to sneak a little petty in there with the fact that she too could have been carrying Chris’ baby, given all of the unprotected sex those two had at the beginning of their marriage. Mercedes looked truly shocked by that. Lol I don’t know why.
Again, when he was confronted with his own sh*t. He couldn’t take it. He started being rude, talking about dinner, talking over Paige, playing with that damn phone again.
And when he couldn’t take anymore, he got up and walked out.
Sickening.
Thankfully, Paige came out looking amazing. I was hoping that would be the last time she and Chris saw or spoke to one another. But apparently, the trailer for next week’s episode proved that that is not the case.
