Time and again, you swear you’ll make it to an appointment or work meeting on time, and maybe you do. But for the 25% of times you run late to work, don’t you wish you could have made it there just a little bit sooner? Here are 10 reasons you’re always running late to (or at) work, and possible solutions that could finally stop you from being tardy to the work party!
10. You got a new weave (or hairstyle) and spent a little too much time brushing it–causing you to miss your bus, train, or ferry to work.
SOLUTION: Do your hair at night and sleep in a scarf, or get over it and do your hair in the office bathroom.
9. You hit the ‘snooze’ button on your alarm clock one too many times.
SOLUTION: Buy a really loud alarm clock and keep it at such a far distance that you’d have to get up in the morning to hit anything on it.
8. You don’t like the outfit you have on and you want to change.
SOLUTION: Have a go-to outfit (that you know you love) stashed in your closet so that any time you have a “bad outfit day” you can quickly yank it out and jet off.
7. You’re subconciously avoiding a job you hate.
SOLUTION: Create a passion project–for you and by you–at the job, so you’ll always have something to look forward to, even if everything else fails to rock your boat.
6. You’re having flashbacks of arguments with your boo.
SOLUTION: Write a note about your feelings on the train ride that you need to be catching immediately, Madame! If you drive, write the note mentally–as you head out of the door, and into your car, right now.
5. A long-time friend just called, or maybe even your boo called (to discuss #4 above), or someone to whom you could speak later–and it won’t be end of the world–called.
SOLUTION: Rank phoners in your life from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest. Should your phone ring in the morning, quickly decide whether the person who’s calling is a 2 or a 5 or a 10. Only pick up on folks who rank highly.
4. You had to go back home to pick up something you forgot.
SOLUTION: At 7pm every night, make it a habit of writing down everything you’ll need the next day. Place those items in your purse, or at the foot of the door so you can see it before you exit.
3. You started out early, and then thought you had enough time, so you sat down and watched television, or did something that ended up making you late!
SOLUTION: Never underestimate how much time could be needed on any given day…there’s just never enough time in the world, is there? If you have more than enough time, then head out! The minutes fly by…
2. You’re tired…which makes you sluggish…which makes you do everything ten times more slowly.
SOLUTION: Go to bed on time the night before. Easy. But, if that’s too much to ask, schedule a train nap if you ride the train. Another trick that’ll wake you up (beside drinking teeth-blackening coffee) is to grab a handful of ice from the freezer and squeeze on them for 15 seconds.
1. You’re busy humping and it’s knocked you off schedule.
SOLUTION: Keep it short and sweet Madame Noire reader.
