Married at First Sight Season 9 in Charlotte premiered on Wednesday night, and while we were able to meet all of the soon-to-be-wed singles, only one Black couple made it down the aisle in the first wedding episode: Deonna and Greg.
As far as first impressions go, I like them together. (I liked Jasmine and Will on their wedding day, too, but we know how that worked out.)
Deonna is beautiful, has a bubbly personality (some fantastic hair may I add), and is grounded in her faith. As for Greg, he has great manners (he asked if he could kiss her before doing so at the altar), is in touch with his emotions (those pre-wedding tears and those vows won me over), and he too is proud to be a man of God, involved in his church.

My only reservation about them so far is that they are coming into the marriage with some strong baggage from past relationships. Greg was previously engaged and Deonna, well, she hasn’t been in a relationship since she was in college. In the latter situation, she let the pain of that breakup hold her back from really opening up to anyone else — so she opted to seek out someone through Married at First Sight. Her lack of dating experience could make handling conflict difficult for her, and his reaction to her saying she’d been out of the game for more than a decade showed he has some concerns about it. However, they seem to have good chemistry so far, and hopefully, with the help of their faith and the experts, they can work through whatever may come, because it will come as past seasons of this show have proven. They are strangers.
Per the usual, Twitter was tuned in and had some interesting reactions to everything about Deonna and Gregg. From what I can see though, most people are rooting for them. Hit the flip to see what the people have to say:
