If you grew up in and around the early 2000s, then you know that Baby Phat was a staple. Whether you were rocking the half bubble coats, the jeans, or tops, it was a staple in many closets. Being that the brand was so closely linked to Hip Hop culture, which is synonymous with cool, it quickly became a status symbol for girls of a particular age.
And these days, those girls are women in their late twenties, early thirties. In case you haven’t noticed, nostalgia sells. And Baby Phat is looking for a piece of the pie. Last month, they announced that they would be coming back but we weren’t entirely sure how that would look…until yesterday.
Fast fashion brand Forever 21, teased us yesterday with a tweet that offered some more information.
The cat is back makes things pretty plain. And then the two way from K.L.S. puts the nail in the coffin. So Baby Phat is relaunching with Forever 21. I’m undecided about whether or not I’ll be indulging this time around. But I can’t lie, I’m interested to see how the styles will change to fit these particular times. And because Forever 21 stores are everywhere, I’ll be able to do so easily, on the internet and in person. Then again, Forever 21 is not exactly known for long lasting, high quality pieces. And the impact of fast fashion has proven problematic, fatal and environmentally damaging. So there are some additional, poignant concerns there as well.
