Most conversations surrounding weight after a woman gives birth are focused around the assumed weight gain, and the efforts of new mothers to lose it. But not every woman holds onto the pounds put on during pregnancy. In fact, some have their children and slim down so much, so fast (sometimes leaving them smaller in size than they’ve ever been), that it can be alarming. It can also possibly be detrimental for the baby, as excessive weight loss can impact your breast milk supply.
For actress DomiNque Perry, she lost so much weight due to the physical stress and emotional roller coaster of being a new parent that she admits she was embarrassed to leave the house at one point for fear of what loved ones would say.
She shared a video of herself dancing with her five-month-old daughter Zen in a dress, and the beauty, a former fit dancer, looks noticeably smaller. She shared the video with a message meant to encourage other new moms not to let the changes they see in their body after baby get them down, because not only can they change it, but it’s all worth it.
“I posted this video to show my queens with new children, y’all I lost soooo much weight after having my daughter Zen I am SKIN-T right now haha!” she wrote. “Felt so down about it I didn’t even step outside of the house to go anywhere, fearing the looks I would get from friends.. With the stress, emotional ups n downs, breastfeeding and shock your body goes through during pregnancy n childbirth my body weight completely deflated , everyone close to me has noticed but has been very positive on my journey to get back to Dominque (better version of me) I say all this to say: to my queens that have went through an experience of pregnancy n childbirth EMBRACE THAT POST BODY! You’ve just endured something so traumatic yet so beautiful! With working out or whatever technique you plan on doing, gained weight or lost it you WILL get back to you or an even better you! Stay encouraged it’s all worth it when you look at your little one!”

The Insecure actress is able to have a positive outlook about the changes her body is going through because being a mom has transformed her way of thinking. She told us back in August that she felt inspired by Zen to be her best self in every way, including both mentally and physically.
“It’s definitely made me want to be a better me,” she said. “It made me want to do better physically. I want to work out even more. I want to eat healthier because I want her to eat healthy. I feel like in order to take care of her, I have to take care of me first. It just makes me want to be the best person I am like physically and emotionally for her, you know? So it’s changed me in every way honestly, for the better.”
