What’s more magical than ancient ruins, turquoise waters, Mediterranean food, powdery sand, and rows of white houses lined against a picturesque blue sky? Nothing, which is why Greece has increasingly become the go-to getaway for family vacations and honeymoons. But while you can turn Greece into any type of trip, I’m here to tell you Greece is even more special when you share it with your girls.

I know what you’re probably thinking. Greece is the ultimate romantic destination, right? Not any longer. Gone are the days when Greece was simply a spot for boo’d up honeymooners and couples looking to stare off into the sunset. Now, more than ever, the destination is booming with girlfriends looking to experience a mix of adventure, history and partying together. And yes, you can get all of that there.

With over 227 Grecian islands, there’s enough diversity to satisfy any group goals. So whether you’re looking to party it up, explore ancient history, chill on a yacht, or hit the beach, there’s a Greek island for that. Read on to see which islands will make the perfect locale for your next girlfriend’s getaway.

For History: Athens

In Athens, you’ll learn the history of the Grecian gods, the rich culture of the city, and explore all of the city’s ancient monuments. Walking tours offer unique options such as food and wine tours and history tours that explore sites such as Acropolis, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Library of Hadrian. You won’t need much time in Athens, you can squeeze thousands of years of history into 48 hours in the city.

Where to eat: Athens is home to impressive Michelin-starred restaurants, family-run establishments that are known for their excellent homemade traditional Greek food and stylish eateries with city or sea views. For gorgeous views of the Athens Riviera, you’ll want to plan to do lunch and spend the day at Nice-n-Easy Seaside at Astir Beach. Seriously, who knew Athens had views this beautiful? After a day on the riviera, make sure to plan for dinner at Papadakis or Frankie for some of the best food that Greece has to offer. Papadakis offers fresh Mediterranean food, while Frankie offers a range of Italian dishes. Whatever your palate desires, you can’t go wrong with either of these options.

Where to stay: Greek Hospitality company, HotelBrain is your best bet for finding some of the cheapest (but beautiful) properties around Athens. Opt for SpotApart apartments if you want to be in the middle of the city, and within walking distance to all the major attractions.

For Relaxation: Santorini

In Santorini, spend time on the water on a catamaran cruise. Once you’ve docked, enjoy some of the world’s best sunsets in Oia. If the water isn’t your scene, be sure to lounge on unique beaches like the Red Beach, and dabble in the exciting nightlife in Fira.

Where to eat: Petra Kouzina cooking class is a must if you want a unique Grecian experience and to discover recipes to some of Greece’s most delicious traditional dishes.

Where to stay: Iconic Santorini, offers insanely gorgeous views overlooking the sea and features cave-carved rooms and a sea-view pool along with its luxurious amenities. Want to spend the morning enjoying breakfast enjoying the iconic views (get it?). You can do that, or take a dip in your private pool, that offered en-suite so you don’t even have to leave the room to go for a quick swim.

For Partying: Mykonos

During the day, you can hop around Mykonos city to do some one-of-a-kind boutique shopping or head to one of the many beautiful beach clubs, such as SantAnna Beach Club to enjoy a lazy day of lounging and lunch At night, you’ll want to hit Little Venice to party all night long. Mykonos is literally about partying until you drop. Argo Bar plays Hip-Hop, Reggae & R&B all night long, so make sure you stop by here if you’re looking to find “us.”

Where to eat: Mamaloukas sits on top of the city, and offers gorgeous views of Mykonos. (Pro tip: you’ll have to walk up a lot of stairs to get here, but you’ll have worked up an appetite for all the delitable food you’re about to eat).

Where to stay: Airbnb, of course. Mykonos is the perfect island to opt out of a hotel, and spend some quality time with your girls in one of the mainly villas that there are to choose from.
