Easily one of the best award shows in Hollywood,the BET Awards is gearing up for its 10th annual show on Sunday. BET has gained heavily from a branding perspective for its awards shows. Whereas other award shows build on hype and struggle to maintain viewers throughout the duration of the shows, BET manages to balance creative appeal and efficiency, maintaining viewership throughout the program.
Last year, partly due to the Michal Jackson tribute, the ratings for the awards show increased by 61 percent from the previous year according to Nielsen Media Research. An estimated 10 percent of turned-on television sets were tuned to the show, which is unusually high for a cable station.
