Bedbug Bill Moves Forward in Albany
(WSJ) — A bill requiring landlords to disclose a brief history of bedbug infestations to potential tenants moved closer to becoming state law this week, as it advanced through the state Assembly Housing Committee with a unanimous vote.
If passed, the bill would mandate that landlords tell prospective tenants about any bedbug infestations over the past year in their buildings and in the specific apartments that tenants are looking to rent. An earlier version of the bill required landlords to give tenants a five-year history of bedbug infestations. It also mandated that landlords identify each apartment where an infestation had taken place in a prospective building, even in apartments that tenants aren’t considering.
