D.C., Arlington Partner on Bike Program
(Washington Business Journal) — The District Department of Transportation and Arlington County are expanding D.C.’s bike-sharing program across the Potomac River, with plans to add 1,100 bikes at 114 stations by the end of 2010.
Funded by federal money through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program, the expansion will cost roughly $6.4 million for the first year with membership and usage fees covering half of the yearly expenses. DDOT officials said that percentage will increase as the system grows.
