C**chie Cracks And Gone With The Wind Fabulousness: Why I’m Team Kenya Moore…Even If Nobody Else Is

Week after week I’ve observed the antics of Kenya Moore on Real Housewives of Atlanta.  Her “Gone With The Wind fabulous” personality has put her in quarrels with almost every cast member on the show.  She called out contestants for showing their coochie crack at JET magazine’s open call for Beauty of the Week, left a charity event because Porsche mixed up the name of the beauty pageant she won, and she even started a Stallion Booty workout DVD to parallel Phaedra’s Donkey Booty video. She’s a diva. Her outlandish behavior isn’t winning over many people, but somehow I’ve become one of her biggest cheerleaders. Am I the only one who is entertained?

Kenya Moore said people liken her to Beyoncé. While many admonished her statement, Ms. Moore is my chocolate-coated version of Beyoncé. Like Beyoncé, she’s beautiful, curvaceous, and entertaining.  She overcame adversity and became successful in her endeavors all while sustaining the public humiliation of being in a fake (and if not fake, foolish) relationship. So why does it seem that no one shares my sentiments about Ms. Moore?

I know Kenya can be over the top and somewhat disrespectful from time to time, but that’s what makes her so enjoyable.  When she showed up at Nene’s charity event playing the part of an over-exposed, crazy alcoholic, all I could do was laugh. Her outfit was as inappropriate as Phaedra’s statements about Kenya’s mental health, which is why Kenya’s shenanigans are amusing at best.  Kenya’s decision to reveal private information regarding her mother’s mental illness could have resulted in a pity party, but she took the high road and found comedy in the process, which is one of many reasons why I’m on Team Kenya.

My admiration of her actually started as a young girl.  I was excited to see that a human version of a black Barbie won the Miss USA Pageant in 1993.  Her guest appearances on some of my favorite shows like Living Single and Martin kept me in the loop of her acting career, and her business endeavors over the years have been a success. I was elated to learn that she was the newest Georgia Peach on RHOA and to date, she hasn’t disappointed–well, at least me.

On top of being entertained by her, I also empathize with her too at times. I never knew the importance of having a family until I started my own so I definitely empathize with Kenya’s quest for a husband and children.  Unfortunately for her, she embarked on a relationship with a man that cared more about publicity than romance and she endured backlash as a result.  We may never know the factual details of her relationship nor should we.  That information is on a need to know basis and quite frankly the general public doesn’t need to know about her relationship with a man who is clearly uninterested in walking her down the aisle anytime soon.  Whatever they had is clearly over and Kenya can spend her time being available to the right man that shares the same biological clock she’s on.

While she’s definitely not the nicest chick in the ATL, I don’t find her behavior much different from what we’ve soon from RHOA stars for years. NeNe Leakes has come off like a big bully on many an occasion, yet she’s beloved by many people and has propelled her career very far. As for Kenya, she has unfairly been given undeserving labels such as desperate and crazy that she really doesn’t live up to. Her intellect and success should override her edited actions of the reality show she appears on weekly and I look forward to seeing more of her in the future…even if I’m the only one.

If you’re a fan of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, you’ve probably become very familiar with Kenya Moore, the resident desperate woman who, as “Gone-With-The-Wind-Fabulous” as she is, still hasn’t found her Prince Charming. She’s made it known on almost every episode of Season five that she is more than ready to be married and have children, pressuring her poor [faux] boyfriend Walter to put a ring on it.

While there is nothing wrong with knowing what you want and going after it, there is a difference between actively pursuing romance and desperately trying to find a husband.  In case you don’t already know, desperation isn’t hot by any means. As a woman who is knocking on 40 herself, I understand her level of concern – especially as it pertains to having children. But pressuring yourself and others into marriage can cause more harm than good if you’re not careful. If the following describes your approach to looking for a relationship with marriage in mind, it’s time to slow down and take it easy before you find yourself with the wrong guy, or pushing the right one away.

Fo’real Kenya?! “Cynthia Should Retire Her Dusty Old Wigs And Worn Out Makeup Brushes”

If you hadn’t already noticed, Kenya Moore is going to be a handFUL on this season of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Interestingly after telling The YBF that she hopes her “presence [on the show] will raise the bar” — whatever that means — the reality TV newbie took some very low shots at her castmate Cynthia.

Writing on her Bravo TV blog, Kenya called herself clearing up her behavior at the Jet Beauty photo shoot, but what she really ended up doing was explaining why she thinks she’s earned the right to be rude to the girls trying out and why doesn’t see eye to eye with Cynthia. Here’s what she wrote:

“[I]t’s obvious Cynthia does not read, watch television, and has been under a rock when I exploded on the scene years ago. I made history being crowned the second black woman to win Miss USA and I was fifth place in The Miss Universe pageant. Let me refresh hers or anyone else’s sluggish memory…

“If you don’t know, you better ask somebody. I’m also that girl whose been on the covers of and modeled for over 30 magazines from Essence to Real Health to Maxim magazine. In fact, the very audition she held for the Jet Magazine Beauty of the Week, I was chosen as a Jet Beauty. I also have a Jet Magazine cover. Do you have a Jet Magazine cover, Cynthia? NO, you don’t.  Additionally, I’m that girl who has had multiple endorsements including my very own Pantene hair commercial, print ads, cosmetic campaigns, as well as numerous fashion layouts. Yep me.  However, models usually retire around 30-years-old. Even though Cynthia is a beautiful woman, at 45, maybe Cynthia should retire her dusty old wigs and worn out makeup brushes that are just as worn out as her welcome mat from the modeling industry.”

I’m no fan of Cynthia’s but at 45 she’s still landing modeling campaigns. In fact I just caught her in an INC ad in Glamour this past weekend. As for Kenya, she’s still trying to remind people of things she did 20 years ago. It’s all fine and well to have that success under your belt but she needs to turn it down just a notch. Her face might be cute but the ‘tude is not.

There’s A New HBIC On The Cul-de-sac: Kenya Moore Says She’s The Official Ish Starter Of RHOA

Now that Nene Leakes is on her grown woman — five seasons into the “Real Housewives of Atlanta”  franchise — Bravo needed someone to pick up where the reality star’s messiness left off. Many thought that person would be her right-hand man-woman Marlo Hampton but as we’ve seen from the Season 5 cast preview, she’s nowhere to be found. Who is, though, is newcomer Kenya Moore who seems all too comfortable checking a chick (or man) every now and then.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Kenya didn’t even try to shield the drama she was involved in during this season’s taping.

“I immediately bump heads with one of the other Housewives,” she said. “[Cynthia] was being disrespectful and overstepping her boundaries, so I had to let her know that that wasn’t acceptable to me. It resulted in security being called.”

Sounds like the former Miss USA didn’t just use words to “let her know.” Unfortunately, it also seems like she’s a little proud of being an ish starter this season.

“Trust me, it is full of drama,” she added. “I am in the middle of most of it, and probably cause most of it. I went through a lot of ups and downs with the women on the show.”

Though none of us knows what it’s like to interact with these women on a personal level, one all-day marathon of RHOA immediately tells you what you’re getting yourself into participating in a show like this. It goes without saying that many people don’t understand what motivates others to join this cast, particularly at this stage in the game, but 41-year-old Kenya claims the opportunity sort of fell into her lap after she relocated from Hollywood to Atlanta to pursue a relationship.

“I’ve been successful in my career as a producer and actor, but [I have] no husband and no children,” she said. “I took a leap of faith and moved to be closer to the guy that I was seeing. The show came about, and I thought it would be an amazing opportunity for me to step outside of my comfort zone and take advantage of all the opportunities that a show like that presents.”

Given that Nene is the only person from the ATL cast who seems to have capitalized on any of her reality fame, Kenya may have taken a bigger leap of faith than she thinks. But apparently she’s okay lying in the bed she’s mad thus far.

“My fans have been kind, but this is a whole new world,” she said. “So far, people have been saying that I’m their favorite, and they haven’t seen one episode!”

Well here’s a snippet of an episode to help you decide. Looks like security may have been called more than once this season. Thoughts?
