Leah Remini: Sharon Osbourne Had Holly & I Fired Because We Were ‘Ghetto’

If you were like me, you probably loved the original cast of CBS’ “The Talk.” (Minus Marissa Jaret Winokur, who left the show last January.) “The Talk,” which was clearly CBS’ answer to ABC’s “The View”was strong in the fact that its co-hostesses all came from diverse backgrounds. There was a lesbian (Sara Gilbert), a Brit (Sharon Osbourne), a black woman (Holly Robinson Peete), an Asian woman (Julie Chen) and the feisty Jewish and Italian woman, Leah Remini. In an industry dominated by white men, it was more than refreshing to see such a diverse cast on daytime television. In all seriousness, it was beautiful. And often more light-hearted and less controversial than “The View.” Sometimes all that screaming over one another really is too much.

But all good things must come to an end right? In a shocking and unexplained move, the network axed Peete and Remini and replaced them with Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler. Interesting, right? While I don’t mean to throw any shade whatsoever to Underwood and Tyler, I miss the old lineup! I loved Leah’s authentic frankness and Holly’s delightful overshares. The dynamic of all the women and how they communicated with one another really made for good television. But what was so unsettling about Peete and Remini’s exit was the fact that no one said a thing about it.

Until now.

Leah Remini took to the 24 hour celebrity press conference, a.k.a. Twitter, to finally address why she and Peete had to go. (Finally, some closure.)

This is what she had to say: (Buckle your seat belts.)

“Sharon thought me and Holly were ‘Ghetto’, (her words) we were not funny, awkward and didn’t know ourselves… She had us fired.”

Oh lawd.

Before we get into this, let’s pause for the cause, if I hear yet another ignorant person, Caucasian or otherwise, incorrectly use the word “ghetto,” I’m going to start a riot…in the confines of my own apartment…without breaking any valuables, of course.

Leah went on to tweet that Sharon revealed all of this on Howard Stern when she, Chen and Gilbert appeared on his show back in December. Looking at the some excerpts of the interview, Sharon did say that the two didn’t “know themselves.” But the ghetto thing, I didn’t see. But who knows. In Ms. Osbourne’s defense though, if she thought Holly and Leah were ghetto, I’m sure Sheryl, though she is not ghetto, would probably be waaay too much for her to handle. And I’m not the only one who believes this, one of Remini’s followers tweeted:

@LeahRemini if so then it looks like Sheryl is the next to go cause Sharon looks like “shut up Beyotch” when Sheryl is talking

(On the real, sometime Sheryl says some very cringe worthy things.)

And Leah replied,

“That’s who she is. she did that to me everyday. I feel for them. She has the power that was given to her. And yes, you are also right”

Looking at these allegations, what do you think? Do you think Osbourne really had the two of them fired? Do you prefer the new line- up on “The Talk”? Hell, do you even watch “The Talk”? Maybe I’m the only one who is still tripping about this absolute scandal…

I really like the current cast. To me, the original cast of Leah wouldn’t allow Sara to open up to talk. Now the current cast makes light of everyday topics and shows we all have water still under our bridges.

  • JuliaGulia

Yikes! Sharon is foul and crude, she might want to watch what she says about others. I always liked Holly and viewed her as a class act. Leah is a bit rough around the edges, but next to Sharon she looks like a debutant! Can’t say I ever watched the show. Frankly I find Sharon and her family so offensive I have turned the channel anytime I see them on (OK I give Kelly a reprieve on fashion police because I’ve been watching that since long before she came on).

  • kitkittles

I loved the diversity of the first cast. I was really sad that it ended the way it did. I don’t like the show without Leah & Holly, nothing against the new cast members, but they were what kept me coming back.

  • Child_Puhleez

Sheryl is most definitely ghetto! Ugh

  • miki

I was so interested in why they fired them I never knew why until now n can’t belive it. Wow I really like Sharonand Leah and holly and Sara but not Julie hate her, with out her I thought it was the perfect cast.

  • D Clark

I do miss the old line up.  Sheryl can sometimes say stupid things.  I DVR the show just to see celebs, like Reba.  Bring back the old line-up!!!!

  • JewelThompson

Holly is far from being ghetto. I like Sheryl and know that she can hold her own against Sharon Osbourne.

  • SASHA

Holly vs Sheryl…..well Ms. Underwood say good-bye to your job because those crabby bitter beyotches
can never say holly  is more uncouth compared to sheryl…I love sheryl but no one can justify this crazy reasoning

  • Sasha

sharon osborne calling someone ghetto should never be an insult…her reality show  featured her family in such  a negative limelight  that she truly has no business calling anyone ghetto…..the Osborne’s are dysfunctional to the highest level and its funny that now sharon is attempting to clean up her image but anyone in their  right mind can see the osbornes even with all their money are white trash

Julie Chen had an affair with a married man and married him, this man is the head fool in charge at CBS and I’m sure she got him to fire Leah and Holly.  If anyone should have been fired it should have been Sharon and that freak of nature Sarah Gilbert who sat in the corner and barley said a thing, I had to always turn up the sound on my tv just to hear what she was saying which was nothing.  Julie got where she is because she is married to the head fool in charge.  Cheryl is a embrassment to all Black people and has the biggest and ulgest gums I have ever seen and Aisha is just plan boring and well as Sarah.  Sharon is a no talent potty mouth idiot who can’t talk about others with that house of sicko freaks she calls her family.  Drugged out Ozzie and the kids took after him.

  • Qmmp

the only reason this show has lasted as long as it has is because Julie Chen is married to a CBS big wig. if this wasn’t the case the show would have been dropped by now.

I still watch the talk. I am glad I read this article because I wanted to know why Leah left the show. I liked Holly ,but the oversharing as was mentioned in this article, was doing too much for the show. I feel like Holly didn’t need to overshare as much as she did. Sometimes she would mention her celeb friends and such and it was not needed. And I bet that made the cast uncomfortable as well. But anyway,I loved Leah’s input on the show. She made me laugh. I thought that she had a great connection to the audience.

  • Jazminekane

I like Cheryl but I never liked Aisha Tyler. Hated when they put her on Friends. She is boring!

I LOVED the TALK when Leah & Holly were on. And when the new season came, I haven’t watched as faithfully. I used to DVR it just so I could watch it over and over again. Now…not at all.
I only watch if they have a guest that I am interested in…and even then…not watching the whole show.
Gurl, You are not the only one.

coincidence??? or is this clearly an instance where we remove positive, classy black women from television/media and replace them with, well those who act in ways “the mainstream media” wants to exhibit them. I totally have nothing against Sheryl Underwood, but I cannot relate to her nearly as much as I can relate to Holly Robinson Peete…Osbourne says that she (Peete) was one who does not “know herself”. Now what the hell does that mean? Are black women “supposed” to act a certain way? Please elaborate.

    • perplexed

      yeah, i thought so too…

leah remini is super s*xy and should never be fired from anything

  • JD

I was never really a fan of the show.  Thought is was a bad “The View” ripoff.  Nevertheless, Sharon Osbourne is in no position to talk about anybody for any reason.  She is married to “The Prince of Darkness” Ozzie and he clearly has diminished brain capacity.  Her offsprings are recovering drug users and her house seems to be overrun by pets.  Dogs poop, pee and create havoc all over that house.  Sometimes people throw shade who are least in the position to do so.  Her english accent will not give her a free pass on taste.  Americans can sometimes get caught up with these so called proper accents and give these people more credit than they deserve.  She’s still a woman with flaws and I’m not sure her opinion should carry enough weight to get people fired.  Is she really contributing that much to the show.  I don’t think so.  It’s boring and uninteresting!!!  Careful Sharon, there’s such a thing as Karma and what goes around, comes around!!!!!

  • Niche423

I enjoyed the show with Leah and Holly. Don’t get me wrong I like Sheryl, but she can be over the top and loud at times. Calm down a little.

  • Joyce

I think that sharon lots of times is sickening with the things she says, and how she acts. They so got that wrong letting those two go. And I no longer watch The TALK—and would of stayed with it had those two not been fired.

  • Clift

Sheryl is the worst thing I have ever seen on tv. Loud, ignorant, always grinning showing her gums MAMMY!

    • tiffanysince1987

She may play that role well but do not let her “mammieness” fool you because she is a college educated woman.

      • Gladys

yeah, but is doesn’t show Sherly is a living Minstrel Show and painful to behold.

      • Gladys

    • April64baby

I so agree with you! You would think she would look at and listen to clips/pics of herself and tighten up a bit. She shouldn’t have to change who she is but I thought ignorance stopped being funny many decades ago. Way over the top and really not that funny to me.

    • Blessed!

Your comment about Sheryl is rude and nasty. What a racist thing to say. Disgusting, some thoughts you should keep to yourself.

    • Michelle Kirkwood

Excuse me? Just because she expresses herself a certain way (like some black folks do) dosen’t make her ignorant. And ,uh, if you have a big smile, hell, yeah, all your teeth are going to show! Yes, your comment is stupid and ignorant on top of that. And,honestly, seeing how Sharon Osbourne and her messed-up family acted out and got famous/rich for it,she’s really in no position to decide who’s “ghetto” and who’s not. Especially since Holly Peete is hardly anyone you would call “ghetto” anyway. And where the hell did you get “Mammy” from? Please, let’s get out of calling each other old stupid out-of-date racist names, please.

  • Knox

sheryl & aisha down to earth so sharon osborne and family not stuck up either.

we were disappointed when miss remini was let go. for a time we stopped watching the talk and then miss underwood and miss tyler were brought in.  love miss underwood, miss tyler, not sure, but clearly, when she isn’t aware that the camera is on her, ms. osbourne looks as if she swallowed a lemon followed by one of ozzie’s chickens.  miss peete was lackluster, no loss, but leah remini was delightful and funny and said what she thought, which is what i believed the talk was about.  surprised at the ostensible power sharon osbourne has when she is not even listed as a producer, yet sarah gilbert who appeared to be friendly with miss remini and is an exec. producer seemingly did nothing in her defense. there is no chemistry with these women, wonder what the next move will bring

  • Lorenzo

Sorry about the mis spelling of Sharon’s name, It does not change the content.

  • Lorenzo

In this country we have a tendency to equate the British accent with intelligent/educated speak. Please note or ask one of your British friends to assess Sharon Osbone’s dialect and language command to a local region in England. You will find where she hails from and the sort of people that make up her ancestory. It would probably surprise you. I don’t recall her being invited to the royal wedding of Ozzie being knighted Sir Ozzie. I could be wrong I did not research this, I am going out on a limb and suspect that I am correct.

Was not ghetto a name for the housing section of the Jewish people in Germany. In that section there were many different socio economic people, trades, professionals etc.

Holly Robinson Peete has always exuded class and decorum throughout her career (In my opinion)

  • Karnita

I used to watch the show, I loved Holly and Lehea, they were the only reason I watched. I stopped when they left.

  • Amija

I don’t know about Holly, but Leah Remini is hella ghetto. Love her though.  I can’t watch now because Sheryl Underwood is too much for me.

    • April64baby

I agree with you. I’ve liked Leah since The King of Queens. I don’t see how anyone could refer to Holly as “ghetto”. I’ve never been a watcher of the show on a regular basis but have seen bits and pieces once or twice. I would definitely not watch it now. I can’t take Sheryl Underwood – on anything! She is just too loud and doesn’t seem to have any censors. She will just say anything. It’s embarrassing to watch/listen to her. She always makes me uncomfortable.

  • Squeezablechic

Cheryl is the only reason why I sometimes watch the first 15 minutes of the show…just to hear what funny thing she’ll say. The rest of them are corny, especially Sharon. She is judgmental and talks about sex and role play with Ozzy. Who wants to hear that? Sarah is ok, but boring. Ayisha rambles and never gets to the point which always involves her husband and how wonderful this white man is. Julie’s husband is a big shot at CBS, so he’s not going anywhere, and she’s a Miss Goody Two Shoes. The topics and guests are just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. If the get rid of Cheryl then the show is dead!

  • Tru

Sara is the executive producer – the show was her creation and Julies husband runs CBS the only reason those two pieces of cardboard are still there. I truly believe it had something to do with Julie why they aren’t around, plus they say Leah’s mom kept parking in top brass parking spaces. Sharon’s observation about Leah and Holly not knowing themselves couldn’t be further from the truth. Leah and Holly were unapologetic about who they were. Holly in a more classy way then Leah but they were both great. The Talks loss. I haven’t watched a whole show since. I don’t mind Aisha but underwood is AWFUL!

  • emily

Don’t watch the view.  But how anyone can refer to Holly R Peete as ghetto is beyond me.  Replacing her with Sheryl and expecting some sort of submission makes me lmao.

  • Chanda

I don’t know I think there’s more to the story than what’s being said. Leah and Holly didn’t come off as ghetto to me and they all say crazy things anyway. Maybe they just weren’t Sharon’s cup of tea. There’s some holes in this story somewhere.

    • Aly

Holly mentioned briefly on Wendy Williams that Sharon said she “didnt know her place” & said something to the effect of her being uppity which would run me the wrong way. Anyway from what they were saying when it 1st happened Sharon allegedly didn’t like their “urban flair”

  • Lola

Leah and Holly were the only reasons to watch that awful show. I haven’t bothered to watch since they were fired.

  • Aimee

I’ve had a problem with Leah Remini ever since she publicly agreed with Tom Cruise when he said Brooke Shields was crazy because she had postpartum depression. Remini made some comments about how Ms. Shields shouldn’t be allowed near children because she was crazy. I guess I just assumed that women (especially those who have had a mental illness) complained to CBS about Remini being on the show or maybe someone who is married to an executive at CBS (possibly Julie Chen?) complained and pulled strings to get Remini fired.

  • Rodriguez

Well Remi is loud and ghetto and she got that way from hanging out with JLO. I don’t believe that is the reason why Holly was fired though because she is not ghetto. Sheryl is as ghetto and horrible as can be.

  • Tanluv68

I never was an avid viewer but, I did like to check in from time to time.  I found Leah Remini and Holley Robinson-Peete relatable.  I cannot, however, relate to Sharon Osbourne.  I love the way she sweeps her skeletons in the closet (i.e. that husband and all those druggie kids) and stands in judgement of someone else.  Why is she even relevant on this side of the pond?  I agree that Julie Chen put her two cents in with the execs at CBS.  I would like Leah and Holly to be given a show perhaps on OWN.

  • Raina

I was a faithful viewer of The Talk. I too, found it to be refreshing and a lot of fun to watch. And after Leah and Holly were gone and all of that went down… I stopped watching the show. I know a lot of women who did. It was just so awkward after they left & not nearly as fun to watch. I didn’t think that Sharon was behind it but now that I hear this… it totally all comes together. Wow. I don’t know about you, but I enjoy down to earth people. I don’t think there are enough of them on television!  Leah & Holly are not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside. I think that’s one of the things we all responded to. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

  • Helado31

Yea, when Sharon Osbourne did that live radio interview with Howard Stern I was like wow. There she was telling grown, married women and mothers i.e. Holly and Leah that they didn’t know themselves. This! Coming from the lady in a house full of crackheads, a high school dropout and the list goes on and on. They are grown women and mothers, not her children. Still, I think Julie Chen definitely egged on Sharon Osbourne too; that way she wouldn’t take all the blame…being that her boyfriend is the CBS Executive!

  • NikkitaMichelle

I know Sharon walked away from her own show years ago which was doing quite well, but I didn’t think she still had that type of pull.  Who knows?  Cheryl is not ghetto, but she is country.  Look out sister.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SCV2NFHLMLXKJSLD3UC5BCOAJ4 Lady Jane

All I can say ia wow and SMH

  • Mssmtaylor

Sharon, must have forgotten about that ridiculous reality show she and her family had.

    • Donna

Your are so right! Those Osbourne’s were a hot mess. Sharon is a two faced crumb she acts so tough. Miss Osbourne forgot that Holly backed her up on Celebrity Apprentice. Donald Trump ate Sharon up for b’fast, lunch and dinner -Holly was the one that intervene and supported Ms. O. Don’t let me find that clip of when she was crying like a baby.

  • Thecomtesse

Now Sharon Osbourne and her family are formally counsel house folks , the american version of project or ghetto, so she cant say anything.

  • Galenafiel

I don’t watch the Talk. I don’t really hav taste for shows like that. However, I was aware of Holly’s firing, but not Leah. I love them both for their other work, and I was surprised to see them go, especially without a valid reason being given. I was shocked when Sheryl Underwood was hired. While I love everything that she does, I could not imagine her in such a mainstream role. Aisha, yes…Sheryl, no. I don’t see her being there long, and would not be surprised if Holly was approached to return.

  • http://twitter.com/victorie82 Sherrie

Once I noticed Holly and Leah were gone I stopped watching. They were the reason I watched

  • Basel

I loved it with leah and holly
    sharon is boring
i wouldnt watch it now if u paid me

  • tiffanysince1987

Sharon could’nt be too judgemental with her husband being a crack head and all.. lol ijs

    • Cherry Valentine

this made me laugh so much

  • Moosegrl_86

I’ve never watched the show. I hate CBS period.

  • bobby

sharon osbourne is a beyoth period, living in london england i’ve seen her in action many times
