There was sort of a window of time for a woman to learn how to be good at using her digits to please her partner. Depending on how early or late of a bloomer you were, maybe that window happened in the late high school years when everybody was still free to admit, “I’m new to this stuff and I have no idea what I’m doing.” Back then, it was okay to ask questions and get a little direction. But if you missed that window to get some instruction, you may find yourself a fully-grown woman, completely baffled as to what to do when you put your hand on your man. The mouth stuff you have on lockdown, but the hand stuff is an enigma (and you’re embarrassed to admit it). Here are questions most women still have about hand jobs (and don’t want to admit).

Do you wait until it’s up?
If he’s completely flaccid, do you even put your hand down there? Or wait until it’s up? Typically, men don’t feel confident about having a woman grip their totally asleep member, and you can count on it getting up on its own with some kissing.

Or is it your job to get it up?
You showed up, you’re half naked, and you’re on top of him—you can safely say you’ve already done your job in terms of getting it up.

Is lube necessary at all times?
Unless you’re touching him very gingerly it isn’t necessary, but why would you be doing that? Pressure is key, so lube is necessary at all times.

Which lube is best?
Silicon lasts the longest so you may want to use that. Having to stop and grab another handful of lube every twenty seconds can kill the mood.
How much pressure should you apply?
Most women make the mistake of treating a penis so gently, you’d think they were worried about breaking it. That thing is pretty strong. That being said, if you’re exhausting you’re hand, then you’re grabbing too hard.

Should the skin be moving?
You’ve probably noticed that the loose skin on a man’s penis moves slightly when you’re touching it. It should be moving a little, but you shouldn’t be moving it so much that it seems like you’re trying to pull the wrapper off of a baguette.

How fast should you go?
You can start slow and move up to a more medium pace, but don’t switch between several speeds. Your partner’s noises will make it pretty clear when you’ve reached a good speed.

Do they want to finish that way?
This is completely dependent on your partner. Some guys are thrilled if they finish this way, while some can feel selfish. Others only like it as foreplay.

Do men even like hand jobs?
Excellent question considering all the male stand-up comics who say, “Why should I have a woman do something I can do myself?” Honestly, if he doesn’t want one, he’ll maneuver the situation into something else—like him going down on you, and that’s no big loss.

Where should I be sitting?
If you’re lying down in any way, you’ll probably have a hard time gaining traction. Have him lay down and spread his legs, and you can kneel between them. Or you can kneel on the floor and he can sit on the side of the bed.

Are you supposed to involve the balls?
Yes! And they don’t require much attention. In fact, be gentle on these. But men have a lot of nerves down there and they’ll be happy if you pay their balls a little attention.

What are you supposed to do to them?
Simply cupping them in your hands, rubbing them lightly together, or fingering the skin that holds them together will go a long way.

Should you be switching strokes up?
Only until you find the one he seems to be responding to. After that, keep doing exactly what you’re doing. Think about it: when your partner is doing something to you and he finds the right maneuver, you don’t want him to change a thing.

How long should I be doing this?
He’ll let you know. Really: your partner knows what he wants to happen. If he just wants you to get him excited before intercourse, he’ll move things in that direction.

Do I need to cut my nails
Sorry but, unless you’re somehow an expert at keeping them way out of the way, then yes, you do. You even barely graze him with one, he’ll be terrified and it will all be over.
