What’s worse than a cheap brother or a broke guy? One who simply can’t manage his funds. It may seem cool, at first, when he’s lavishing money on dates and gifts…but do you want to build a future with someone who’s fiscally irresponsible? Here are a few hints that your gent isn’t good with his finances. Take note (and maybe offer the brother a few pointers to get him on track)!
He’ll Spend A Lot On The “Little” Things…: Bottle service in the club for his crew and yours. Three course meals and tickets to the hottest concerts. Weekend vacays just because…it seems too good to be true because it just may be! Unless your dude is an investment banker, a successful lawyer, owner of a flourishing biz or some other big earner, it’s very possible that he’s burning a hole in his credit cards to impress you, to keep up an aspirational lifestyle or because he just doesn’t have much common sense. If what he seems to earn doesn’t match up with what he’s spending on a regular basis, your honey dip may have a little problem with managing his funds.
…Yet Won’t Invest In What Matters: He’ll drop big bucks to cop the latest shoes, but balked at the price of a root canal? He’s hanging at the bar every week, but you see past due notices piling up from the gas and electric companies? He’s not prioritizing his money right. Something to think about seriously if you were to ever combine funds by living together or tying the knot.
He’s Always Broke: If your boo is in school or between jobs, then it’s more likely than not that his funds will be low. But if you’re dating someone with a decent gig, yet he’s always moaning about his pockets being on E, something’s probably up. It could simply be student loan debt weighing him down, past spending habits coming back to bite him or even simply being cheap and not wanting to spend money on you. But it could also be an inability to manage what he has coming in every two weeks.
He Doesn’t Know How To Shop: The guy who accepts the first price offered on a used car, never comparison shops for anything big or small and refuses to consider the costs of things may not know what to do with his money, no matter how much or how little he has. That’s dangerous. Don’t fall for “I don’t have time to think about the price, I need it now!” This habit can break a budget very quickly and if your money is tied up with his…you don’t want that.
