Intersectionality is a hot topic in the feminist movement today, but the truth is the pioneers of the abolitionist and women’s suffrage movement understood that African American and women’s rights go hand in hand more than 100 years ago. Sadly, we often don’t hear enough about these unsung american heroes who fought for the rights we take for granted today. So, in honor of WGN America’s upcoming miniseries Underground, we’re shedding light on some of these names not often mentioned in the history books but who had a great hand in the freedoms we enjoy now. Don’t miss the series premiere of Underground on WGN America Wednesday March 9th 10/9c.
