2015 is shaping up to be the year of the celebrity baby. But not all celebrity babies pop up out of the blue. Age, genes and some surprising factors caused these celebrity women to struggle to get pregnant.
Courteney Cox-Arquette
The Cougar Town star says that she never had trouble getting pregnant. It was staying pregnant that gave her fertility struggles.
After several miscarriages and more IVF treatments, Courtney had her daughter CoCo Riley in 2004.
Giuliana Rancic
The reality star wants women everywhere to know that 30 is older than you think when it comes to having kids:
“No one ever told me, ‘Oh, by the way, your eggs change when you reach a certain age.” I didn’t think 35 was old! So when the doctor said, ‘It’s not as easy as you thought it would be,’ it was a real blow.”
After several failed attempts to have he own baby, Giuliana eventually used a surrogate.
Julia Roberts
Some celebrities keep their fertility struggles a secret.
Julia Roberts publicly denied having IVF to conceive her twins Hazel and Phinnaeus. However, she was spotted at an infertility clinic and new the sex of her twins just 9 weeks into her pregnancy.
Naomi Campbell
The 44-year-old super model has struggled with infertility for years. And after having an ovarian cyst removed several years ago, Campbell says “it’s in God’s hands.”
Angela Bassett
Angela Bassett struggled with infertility for several years. Finally she and her husband Courtney B. Vance had (biological) twins by surrogate in 2006.
Sherri Shepherd
Not all infertility stories have a happy ending. Months after Sherri Shepherd and her husband Lamar Sally found a surrogate to carry their child the two got divorced.
Now Sherri and Lamar are fighting over custody of Lamar Sally Jr. who was made with Lamar’s sperm and a donor’s egg.
Mariah Carey
Mariah and Nick’s marriage may be over, but neither of them regret the twins they worked so hard to have. In order to conceive at 41, Mariah had to have 10 weeks of progesterone shots to minimize her chance of miscarriage.
Celine Dion
Celine and her husband Rene went through numberous fertility treatments before they had their son Rene-Charles. And to save themselves the trouble the next time they want a baby, they still a frozen embryo waiting on deck.
Khloe Kardashian
Khloe’s been very open about the fertility treatments and hormone therapy she’s taken to conceive the old-fashioned way. But is she still keeping up with those treatments now that she’s single?
Kenya Moore
Her Real Housewives of Atlanta co-star Phaedra Parks brought Kenya Moore’s fertility issues into the spotlight when she called her an “old beauty queen with scrambled eggs.”
It was a very low blow to lob at a woman who’s struggled with fertility issues but sadly not one of reality TV’s lowest moments.
Iman
Sometimes miracles really do happen. Iman and her husband David Bowie tried IVF treatments twice. And when those failed, they planned on adopting — and then Iman surprised everyone by getting pregnant the old-fashioned way!
Kim Kardashian
Did you know that North was a surprise too? For years Kim suffered from the same fertility issues as her sister Khloe. And when North showed up by surprise, Kim called her a “blessing.”
