These men have made millions of dollars and have more fans than they could count but they came up light taking care of their own children.
WENNKarl Malone
He may be one of the greatest forwards to ever play basketball, but off of the court, Karl “The Mailman” Malone is known for blowing off his children. Even though he’s been a father to the four children he has with his longtime wife, Malone has three other children that he fought tooth and nail not to support or even visit. At 20, he got a 13-year-old pregnant and famously fought the $125 per week child support even though he was already collecting NBA checks. Having twins with another woman, The Mailman refused to publicly acknowledge them for 17 years until a tabloid published a story confirming their existence.
Matthew Knowles
Matthew Knowles turned three singers into international superstars with Destiny’s Child. After Beyonce went solo, her father was in charge of her career as well. But she parted ways with her manager soon after her parents divorced. And for good reason: Daddy Knowles was allegedly unfaithful to his longtime wife Tina. Soon after their divorce made news, reports surfaced that Knowles had a young son with actress Alexsandra Wright and he soon fell behind on child support. Wright made headlines of her own after she came forward to call Knowles out on his deadbeat daddy ways. Last month, Knowles was hit with another paternity suit.
Bobby Brown
Bobby Brown very famously married legendary singer Whitney Houston. The couple had one daughter together but while most people know Bobbi Kristina, Brown is a father to other children. He’s been hauled into court before for failure to pay child support and has even been jailed several times because of it. In 2007, he spent three days in county lockup because he was $20,000 in arrears to his ex Kim Ward, the mother of two of his children. After the passing of his very famous ex-wife, Brown’s relationship with daughter Bobbi Kristina became estranged but the two reunited this past Father’s Day.
Bruce Jenner
Bruce Jenner should be commended for stepping in and treating the Kardashian siblings like his own children but unfortunately he was so busy with his new family that he neglected his old one. Son Brody Jenner was forced to grow up without his father for the first decade of his life. Still holding a grudge, the topic came up during a taping of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” after Brody watched his dad interact with his younger sisters Kyle and Kendall. “The way I see Bruce with Kendall and Kylie and Brandon, I’m actually so happy for them,” Brody said in the confessional. “I think Bruce is an incredible human being and I think that Bruce is an incredible father. He just wasn’t a great father to me.”
Evander Holyfield
There was a time boxing heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield was one of the highest paid athletes in the ring. And he had a $10 million, 109-room mansion to show for it. But outside of the ring, Holyfield was a very busy man. A father of 12 children by six different women, Holyfield infamously fell behind on child support. Soon, he owed more than $320,000 and was in danger of losing his license if he didn’t catch up on payments. Holyfield’s mansion went into foreclosure and another baby mama took him to court for nonpayment of child support.
Terrell Owens
Terrell Owens went from one of the most successful and talked about football players to a washed up athlete and deadbeat. After his long career with the NFL came to a close, Owens still felt he had some athleticism in him left and signed up with a semi-pro team. But he was soon shown the door. What’s worse is his financial woes started making headlines. Making over $80 million over his career, Owens still had trouble making child support payments to the four women of his children and in 2011, Owens cried broke and filed documents to lower payments.
Allen Iverson
At just six feet tall, Allen Iverson came into the NBA league as The Answer. Although he never won a championship, he was known as a scrappy player who never gave up. But his estranged wife accused Iverson of giving up on his family once she filed for divorce. The former Sixers star who earned more than $200 million in wages and endorsement during his career, emptied the joint account Tawanna Iverson used to take care of their five children and left them completely broke. Last year, Tawanna demanded more than one million dollars in back child support but earlier this year the couple appears to have buried the hatchet.
Charlie Sheen
You can call Charlie Sheen a lot of things: hardcore party-goer, highest paid television actor but you really cannot call him a great dad. The “Anger Management” star has been accused of domestic violence and when his latest ex-wife Brooke Mueller lost custody of his twin boys, it wasn’t Sheen who stepped in to care for them full-time but his other ex-wife, Denise Richards. The arrangement worked well for a while but soon Richards wanted to give up custody of Sheen’s boys after taking care of them for months and to thank her in return, Sheen tried to have her and her children (two of them are his) evicted from her home.
Jermaine Dupri
So So Def founder Jermaine Dupri had a roster of clients that helped turn him into a multimillionaire but as of late the uberproducer has suffered from financial woes including non-payment of child support. A few years ago, Dupri was sued by the mother of his seven-month old daughter. After paternity was established, Dupri was ordered to pay $2500 a month in support in addition to a one-time payment of $7500. But unable to keep up with his expenses, he quickly fell behind in child support and was hauled into court.
Flavor Flav
Flavor Flav found a new career in front of the camera as a reality show star but the hypeman for Public Enemy was still up to his old ways. Having a history of dodging child support payments, in 2012 Flav was facing six months in prison after falling more than $100,000 behind in child support he owed Angie Parker, the mother of three of his seven children. He avoided a prison sentence by walking in with a $25,000 check in hand. An extra $1200 per month was added to his bill until he fully catches up.
Jude Law
Jude Law is a great dad to his three children — too bad he’s a father of four. The “Sherlock Holmes” star has three children with ex-wife Sadie Frost but he became a father for the fourth time after the woman he had a one-night stand with gave birth to their daughter. Law vehemently denied he was the father but was forced to step up to the plate after a paternity test proved he was in fact the dad. However, in public Law still sometimes forgets the fourth child, like he did during an appearance on David Letterman. When the host asked him how many children he had, Law replied, “three.”
50 Cent
Rapper 50 Cent left the hood behind with his platinum, chart-topping album “Get Rich or Die Tryin” and after his son got older, he was accused of leaving him behind, too. Last year, he had a falling out with his teenaged son Marquise over a text conversation and they have been estranged ever since. The “In Da Club” rapper has accused Marquise’s mother of continuously using him and his child support to take care of herself and believes his son has been brainwashed. Fiddy was noticeably absent from his son’s high school graduation earlier this year.
Eddie Murphy
After splitting from his wife of more than a decade, Eddie Murphy was involved in a brief relationship with former Spice Girl Melanie Brown. Their union barely lasted a year but they were together long enough to create a child. In 2007, she gave birth to their daughter Angel Iris on his 46th birthday and even after a paternity test proved he was the father, the “Dr. Doolittle” star still refused to claim his last born child. For several years, Murphy was against having a relationship with Angel but in 2010 he had finally come around.
