I have to admit, for the finale I was expecting a bit more drama, more shocking moments. “Scandal” has me spoiled. And just because last night wasn’t jam packed doesn’t mean there weren’t several moments that still had our eyes bugged out or our mouths gaping wide open. Check out some of the most memorable moments from the Scandal Winter Finale.
Sally
At the very top of the show, we see the argument between Sally and her husband Daniel that led to her laying him out. She was hysterical, livid, out of her mind. The argument didn’t even seem that intense more like an airing out of dirty laundry. Her husband likes man meat, their daughter can’t her legs closed and their marriage is for political gain. She can’t understand why he would get so low down when she was so close to the highest office in the land. And then homeboy tells her he’s going to leave… and that’s when she snapped and stabbed her husband, the father of her children in the back. Dang.
Fitz’ cluelessness
In what I’m sure he thought was a power move, Fitz has Rowan taken out of his office, puts him in a holding cell and basically antagonizes him for a few hours. Fitz thinks he’s doing what Olivia wants him to do but I just can’t understand how the man is so out of touch with what’s really going on. Who’s the real terrorist, who’s actually protecting the American people? Fitz surely doesn’t know.
Cyrus is shook
When Sally confides in Cyrus about killing her husband, he takes it kind of hard. At first I was a bit surprised by all of this. Cyrus has people killed all the time. But he really didn’t want Daniel to die. And the way it all played out really took something out of him. Cyrus revels in being diabolical but him throwing up in the bathroom really showed that he not only destroyed his own marriage, and Sally’s — if it was ever real to begin with– he also cost a man, an innocent man, his life. He eventually composed himself and helped Sally cover it all up.
Rowan’s Read
Things got pretty intense in that interrogation room. Fitz kept asking Rowan questions and Rowan kept coolly responding “It’s above your pay grade Mr. President.” And I think the check to his authority Fitz got mad disrespectful. He told Rowan how he sleeps with his daughter every chance he gets, how he could describe the way she tastes etc. He said it obviously to get a reaction from Rowan. But all of that backfired in a major way. Instead of crumpling at the thought of his daughter spreading her legs for the president, Rowan checks the president in what has to go down as one of the most powerful monologues in “Scandal” and television history. Some one called it a read on white, male privilege. That’s accurate. He said a mouthful but I’ll include some of the best lines from the diatribe here.
When Fitz says he loves Olivia:
“You love that she is a door marked exit.”
When Fitz tells Rowan he doesn’t know anything about him.
“You are always going to be Senator Grant’s disappointing boy Fitz.”
And finally and most brilliantly:
“Don’t use the person that I made to make you into a man. You are a boy. “
Whew Jesus that was a read like no other.
David and Abby
David and Abby are so nasty and I really love it. They are so cute together. Once again, Abby comes to David asking for more information, this time about Mama Pope. And as always, he gives her static before doing what he said he would… but not before lecturing her about how their sexual relationship doesn’t influence their careers. Ha! Yeah right.
And in an entirely different scene, James tries to get Rosen to investigate the death of Daniel Douglas, probably to get back at Cyrus in some way. David shows him the test from one of his students full of images of pen!s and tells him he’s not going back to that. But when another woman comes with audio of Sally saying she killed Douglas, we’re sure he’s going to have to do something about this.
Huck and Quinn
We see that Quinn and Huck struck up some type of agreement. That she would kill Daddy Pope and he would let her live. She didn’t have a chance to do that because the president came and snatched him away. Once they learned he wasn’t the perpetrator they thought he was, Quinn attempts to come back to Pope and Associates. But Huck is not having it…at all. He can’t get over the fact that she betrayed Olivia. And to nail his point home, he tells her he would have pulled all of her teeth out. And then: “If it wasn’t for Olivia I woulda pulled off all of your skin.” Umph.
Jake is Command
Interesting right? All this time we thought Jake was trying his best to get out of B613. And yet at the end of the show, we see that he and the president have struck up a deal to oust Rowan. I guess Fitz didn’t take Rowan’s criticisms too lightly. But knowing Daddy Pope, I doubt this will be the last time we see or hear from him. Perhaps Jake will use his position to clean the organization up a bit.
James and Cyrus
Remember the time when Cyrus and James seemed like the healthiest couple on the show? Long gone are those days. Cyrus not only pimped out his husband which resulted in a man’s death, he outright admitted that he is the devil. He told his husband “You just maybe never noticed the 666 on my forehead.” Wow. And after striking up a deal that he would help him become the White House Press Secretary, James agrees to stay with him. Wondering what exactly Cyrus would have to do to get James to leave? The manipulation and control is very real with those two. And on another note, did anyone else notice that Cyrus said he would take “the baby he bought” James and leave. That hurt. I mean we always knew the baby was another pawn but the objectification of that black child was a slap in the face, though sadly and completely consistent with Cyrus’ immoral character.
Mama Pope
Lawd knows what this woman has up her sleeve. Here we are thinking she had made it to Hong Kong and killed the pilots there. But instead, homegirl rerouted the plane and ended up right back in Washington D.C. And after she went shopping and got her hair fried, dyed and laid to the side, she was walking around in front of the White House. She’s going to be a problem, trust.
