How to Determine If An Interview Is Getting Too Personal

- By

“Your experience seems to be in different cities, did you move around a lot?”

Read:  “Either you’re an army brat, a nomad or a troubled child but you don’t have the straightforward file I’m used to seeing and I want to know where you’re coming from.”

How to respond: In this case, getting into a long winded sililoquy about how you grew up with your grandparents and bounced around during college is not the way to go.  Keep your answer as brief as possible.  Saying something like, “I’ve been willing to relocate for great career opportunities” is a better choice than stumbling through an explanation of your life in phases.
