How to Determine If An Interview Is Getting Too Personal

- By

“I love your accent- where are you from?”

Read: “I want to ask you what your background is, so I’m just searching for a “politically correct” way to do so.”

How to respond: Your answer will depend on how comfortable you feel sharing personal information about your ethnic identity.  If you don’t appreciate the prying though, you can simply state where you live.  Unless your interviewer is extremely pushy, he or she will get the hint and move on.
