Mompreneurs: How Lisa Price Reclaimed Carol’s Daughter And Reignited Her Entrepreneurial Spark
Lisa Price is back at the helm of Carol’s Daughter after more than a decade under L’Oréal USA. With the beloved hair and beauty brand back under independent ownership, the mother of three is stepping into a new chapter—both personally and professionally. In this week’s episode of Mompreneurs, the natural hair care pioneer joins host Nancy Redd to share the full-circle journey of Carol’s Daughter.
“My very first baby is Carol’s Daughter.”
Long before her brand was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, HSN, and Target shelves, Price was handcrafting beauty products in her Brooklyn kitchen in the early 90s, encouraged by her mother, Carol. Price started selling her homemade recipes at local markets, never imagining the impact she would one day have on the beauty industry.
Named in honor of her mother, Carol’s Daughter became more than a business—it’s a love letter to her family legacy.

“I’m so grateful that I named the company after her, because I get to share what a great mom she was.”
After Carol’s Daughter was acquired by L’Oréal USA in 2014, Price continued to play a key role in the company—overseeing product development, advertising, and more. However, the demands of being hands-on across multiple departments eventually took its toll.

Price opened up about taking a “mental health break” to rest, reflect, and focus on her family. As a perfectionist and “workaholic,” she had always powered through—but with mounting stress both in the workplace and at home, she reached a breaking point.
“I was so stressed out that I wondered, am I supposed to retire now? Is the universe telling me to walk away?”
Instead, she made the difficult but necessary decision to take a five-month sabbatical. That, paired with therapy, allowed the mompreneur to reset. She returned to work energized with a renewed sense of purpose. “It was remarkable to come back and realize the house didn’t burn down,” she said.
The time away brought clarity, setting Price up for her next move—reclaiming her brand.

“When the opportunity presented itself that I could be an owner again, I was in a better place.”
In March 2025, Price announced that she had acquired the brand back from L’Oréal USA, restoring Carol’s Daughter to independent ownership alongside her business partner, Joe Wong. “Now I get to be an entrepreneur again,” she said. “I have so much more information, more confidence, now.”
“The story doesn’t have to end with acquisition.”
As Carol’s Daughter transitions out of the L’Oréal era, Price and her team are focused on developing and testing new products, with launches expected in late 2026.
Also in this episode of Mompreneurs, Price delves into everything from adoption to acquisition, motherhood, and mental health.
