Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart, which is why Kadeisha Placide wanted to create a safe space for ambitious women through her Women in Power summit.
After experiencing burnout and realizing that life as a busy entrepreneur can be overwhelming, Placide wanted to utilize her own experiences with healing and intentionality to help others learn how to effectively manage their time, energy and resources.
“As someone who has been very intentional with my healing journey, and also trying to quiet the noise amidst the hustle and bustle of my own life, I just saw the need that more women like myself—and this was probably like right after pandemic—that more women of color that are also in leadership and business entrepreneurship just need an outlet to lean into healing, lean into rest, community, and that’s how Women in Power came about,” Placide told MadameNoire.
The very first installment, the Run the World brunch, took place in 2022, where Placide drew on her experiences as a licensed cosmetologist and salon owner and shared them with other affluent women.
“In 2018, my family and I opened up our second brick-and-mortar location in Brooklyn,” she explained. “I come from a family of salon owners and business owners in general. We opened up our location that we are at now, which is a wellness salon.”
Placide added, “After doing hair, speaking with other women, typically affluent women, and women who are in leadership positions, I just thought it [was] necessary for us to have conversations that expand the shelf life of what we typically have behind the chair. So, we ended up having an event at the salon centered around soft living, healing and relationships, because we all can do better at the relationships.”

Today, Placide describes the Run the World Summit as a cultural experience, one that is specifically geared toward people of color and those in leadership who need an outlet and the resources to support their journey to wellness and becoming the best version of themselves.

“I believe that when we focus on our wellness, it makes us more productive people in society,” said Placide. “So focusing on the pillars of wellness, whether that means fitness related, movement, spiritual aspects, community building, all of those wellness pillars factor into how we show up in our roles, in our everyday lives, even if that’s a role as a parent or a partner or a friend. If we’re not tending to our holistic self care, we cannot pour into others, and, as leaders, we are constantly pouring into others and leading our ship.”

“We have to focus on ourselves to build healthier relationships, then show up in our daily lives,” she continued. “I will note that this year’s theme is the essence of purpose and relationships. Every year is a different theme. So we’re diving into faith a lot more this year, which is a pillar, and we’ll also be diving into relationships. And relationships, of course, can look like a community. It can [be] platonic, sisterhood [or] romantic. We will be focusing on one workshop related to romantic relationships that is essentially going to be culinary and conversation-centered, and it will focus on building within to attract healthy relationships. That goes back to what I’m saying about we have to work inward, holistically, to then show up for other people, for our partners; just like for our roles.”

For the first time, the event will also feature a men’s wellness panel as part of its programming, a timely addition given that June is Men’s Mental Health Month.
Placide’s philosophy has always been to create something for both sexes, allowing them the opportunity to spend time with one another, to learn, listen, and most importantly to grow and heal, understanding that we are always stronger together.

Attendees will experience healing, joy, and expansion together, and the overall hope is that people leave with new and better connections.
“In addition to connections, because that’s inevitable, we have great people in the room, but just really leaving soul-filled like, filled with inner peace, filled with like, ‘Okay, I can conquer my Monday,’” said Placide. “It is going to happen on a weekend. So, we want to make sure everybody’s refreshed to kick-start their week ahead. So I would love for people to leave feeling refreshed.”
She concluded: “It’s a summit. So that means…having knowledge and learning. That’s the big difference—we’ve always incorporated a level of education, but [now] we are going to make it so much more intentional when it comes to people leaving with gems, tools and actual, practical steps. So that is the difference between the brunch and the summit. And yeah, we want to let them leave with information, with tools, resources, but ultimately, feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.”
The Run the World Summit will take place in New York City on June 21 and 22.
