Most naturals understand what a beast wash day can be and UniQurl founder Alexis Stanley is no different. In fact, it’s the reason why she launched the natural hair care brand in the first place. She needed to cut down on the amount of time that it was taking to wash and style her hair each week.

“My hair was severely damaged by a stylist in 2016. There was heat damage, I got a color job done and my hair was not going back to curly, no matter what I did,” Stanley told MadameNoire. “It was breaking off constantly and I was buying products left and right to try to fix the damage and it just really lengthed my wash day process, the styling process, the treatment process it was — I was doing my hair what seemed like for 48 hours every week, so. I wanted to formulate a product that actually works and that didn’t require a bunch of stuff in order to work and that’s where I came up with the 4-in-1 styler. So it was a combination of what happened to me and also the fact that I wanted a product that works for my girls too.”

Stanley has two daughters with varying hair types, which is why it was also important that the products, which have gone on to gain recognition from Sally Beauty and Cosmo Prof’s Cultivate Cohort of Women Entrepreneurs initiative, worked for all hair types.

“When I formulated the first product, I was really focusing on making sure that the product worked for more than just one hair type,” the registered-nurse-turned-entrepreneur went on. “I have three different hair types in my family. I’m 4C, my ten-year-old daughter is 4B. And then I have my baby daughter, her hair type is in the threes. So I needed a product that could work for all three of us without me having to go out and buy multiple different products from multiple different brands and that is exactly what my products do.”

2-in-1 Conditioning Shampoo

“It’s a 2-in-1 conditioning shampoo and what it does is soften the hair as it cleanses,” Stanley explained. “So, it’s really a luxurious shampoo and once you put it in the hair, you realize that this is really softening your hair as you wash. It does not tangle the hair. It softens the hair.”
