Speech-language pathologist Bianca Germain started this candle brand in 2017 as a way to put more life back into work-life balance. As the website states, “We brew in small batches, pour from the heart and pride ourselves on igniting the mood.” Scent Germain is also lending a strong hand to the current anti-police brutality movement, offering to send cards to the Kentucky attorney general on people’s behalf for the #BirthdayforBreonna initiative.

Perry Boyce

After spending $60 dollars on a candle from an Indie brand that didn’t provide an ounce of scent, Tracey Boyce decided she could do better. And she has, launching Perry Boyce as a luxe, yet affordable lifestyle fragrance brand selling scented candles and room sprays.

Glow Candle Bar

Glow Candle Bar sells 100% handmade soy candles using soy wax, which is vegan and clean-burning; eco-friendly wicks, and phatlate-free Fragrances and essential oils. LIT Brooklyn

Lit Brooklyn’s candles are almost always guaranteed to sell out which is a testament to how much customers love this brand. The luxury soy candle company was started by Denequa Williams and is hand-poured in Brooklyn, but as Williams told crwn mag in an interview, “My purpose is more than selling candles. I want to use my platform as a reminder to be your best self.”



Vela Bougie

Self-proclaimed “candle snob” Sharla Brown started Vela Bougie as a simple way to make the world better by making it brighter. Using natural soybean wax, essential oils, and wick centerpieces made of 100% cotton, Vela Bougie is “committed to the health and wellness of planet Earth and the tasteful humans who occupy it.”


Southern Elegance™ Candle Co.

North Carolina native D’Shawn Russell started making candles to honor the joys of southern living and provide an outlet for her nostalgia as a self-proclaimed “true southern belle;” hence Southern Elegance Candle Company was born. Each candle is hand-poured, infused with fragrances such as lemongrass and sage, and named after a southern city.

Ardor Bin

Healthy candle burning is the focus of Ardor Bin, a luxury candle brand founded by Latrice Littleton. All candles are made of a natural coconut/soy wax blend and sustainable wood wicks, making them vegan and cruelty-free, Packaging materials are also biodegradable, ensuring zero waste.

Model and body-positive advocate Aryn Terry is the founder of this candle brand. AirIn sells 100% all-natural soy wax travel candles which are toxin-free, lead-free, and hand-poured in Chicago.

Posh Candle company’s soy candles are made in LA and exclusively sold online. Started by Tay Watts, the brand’s mission is “to inspire women to be their authentic selves by using catchy phrases and statements that encourage a positive mindset, promote self-love, spark laughter, and offer an on-trend approach to the relaxing flicker of a candle flame.”


Founder and CEO Myeshia Brown started Avant-garde Home from her kitchen in 2014, and after 20 months of research to ensure she didn’t create “just another candle company,” she launched her online store in 2016. A signature of Avant-Garde’s candles is the unique wood crackling wick which heightens relaxation.

Nice Scent Candle Company™ LLC

As its website states, “Nice Scent Candle Company is where the Atlanta culture is expressed via luxury scents.”  Shanice Wilson, who calls herself a semi-Atlanta native, launched the brand in 2018 and many of its soy wax candles, wax melts, air mists, and tealight candles are named after neighborhoods and landmarks in the Georgia capital.

Eleven Twenty-Two

In 2017, candle lovers Kyara and Melissa started a breast cancer campaign titled” Stay lit for the Tits,” and out of its success, the friends launched Eleven Twenty-Two Candle Co. which is the home of the triple-scented, all-natural soy candle.

Like the name suggests, Happy Scents Candle Company’s focus is to make candles that burn clean and provide a “long-lasting scent to fill your home with happiness!” To ensure high quality for customers and the environment, the brand only crafts its soy candles and other scented products in small batches.

The name of this brand is quite literal as it refers to founder Erin C.’s rebirth after a burn accident in 2016 left her with nerve damage to her legs that caused her to have to learn to walk normal again with scars over 60% of her body. Having to stay out of sunlight, Erin began making candles and found peace in creativity. Honoring her great grandmother, Bourne, as a homage to her grandmother who raised her, ReBourné was launched.

Pretty Honest Candles

Founder Andrea created her brand out of her desire to find a candle “that truly filled my home with its scent, instead of barely filling a room.” After two years of research and development, Pretty Honest Candles was created, selling soy candles that burn for up to 50 hours, leave no black smoke or soot, and are biodegradable.

Blue Sage Eco Boutique

Degrees in business management and global sustainability led founder Christina to launch Blue Sage Eco Boutique in 2013. Brooklynite Nya Kam’s fashionable brand of hand-poured candles are designed to “leave you with an aroma, mood, and emotion that will be unforgettable,” much like a love note. Scents include sweet gardenia; lemon verbena, ginger, and mint; and oak moss, amber and cotton tree.

Houston-native Shanquita Greggs started making candles in her grandmother’s kitchen more than a decade ago and when she lost her job after 9/11, the practice quickly went from hobby to full-time business. The tagline for her brand is “we make candles that make scents,” and one of her signature items is the Simply Scents Candle Bundt Cake, a 4-wick candle decorated in the shape of a real bundt cake that can last for 90 hours of burning time.
