On August 22, Living Single, the classic Fox comedy that left NBC so shook they had to make their own version (Friends), will celebrate 25 years since the series premiered. The characters made city living look chic and fun, and they heavily influenced our style (Maxine Shaw will always be our suited idol). It will forever have a place in classic television, particularly the golden years of Black television in the ’90s.
To celebrate that great series, we’re taking a look back at stars who appeared on the show before they had their big break. Also, take a look at the cast discussing the guest appearances over the years in the video below.

A year after her hit single “Don’t Take It Personal” was released, Monica appeared in her first acting gig as Marissa on the “Kiss of the Spider Man” episode in 1996.
