On August 22, Living Single, the classic Fox comedy that left NBC so shook they had to make their own version (Friends), will celebrate 25 years since the series premiered. The characters made city living look chic and fun, and they heavily influenced our style (Maxine Shaw will always be our suited idol). It will forever have a place in classic television, particularly the golden years of Black television in the ’90s.

To celebrate that great series, we’re taking a look back at stars who appeared on the show before they had their big break. Also, take a look at the cast discussing the guest appearances over the years in the video below.

Kyla Pratt

In 1995, while still a kid, the actress played a young girl named Tracy in the episode, “He Works Hard for the Money.” The episode focused on Khadijah lying about saving a man’s life, and Kyle trying to do business with “an eccentric client.”

A year after her hit single “Don’t Take It Personal” was released, Monica appeared in her first acting gig as Marissa on the “Kiss of the Spider Man” episode in 1996.

Will Ferrell

One of the funny man’s first roles after breaking into Hollywood was playing Roommate from Hell #1 on the episode “Talk Showdown” from 1995. The episode is the infamous one where Synclaire, Regine and Khadjiah appear on the talk show “Delia” to be the Roommates from Heaven (where Regine decides to move out by the end).

Morris Chestnut

The handsome actor played upstairs neighbor Hamilton Brown on the “Mystery Date” and “Love thy Neighbor” episodes (1994) where he was the object of all of the roommates’ affection.

Terrence Howard

A young Terrence Howard played Brendan King in “The Hand That Robs the Candle” episode in 1994, where he was the young love interest of Maxine.

Shemar Moore

Back when Shemar Moore was the ultimate PYT, he made his acting debut in 1995 as Jon Marc in “The Last Temptation” episode, Synclaire’s classmate who tries to make a move on her (despite the fact that she’s in a relationship with Overton).

Sherri Shepherd

Sherri’s third acting job was on the “Swing Out Sisters” episode in 1997 where the ladies plan a girls’ night out. She was “The Comedienne.”

Isaiah Washington

Before his breakout roles in Love Jones and Grey’s Anatomy, Isaiah Washington played Dr. Charles Roberts on the show in 1996, a love interest of Khadijah. He appeared in three episodes.

Kenya Moore

Way before her Real Housewives of Atlanta years, beauty queen and actress Kenya Moore appeared on Living Single in 1997. She was in the “One Degree of Separation” episode (where Synclaire and Overton’s parents meet) as Lisa DeLongpre.

Before she was Ella Payne on House of Payne and The Paynes, Cassi played Francine in the 1993 episode, “In the Black Is Beautiful” where Khadijah is struggling with debt.
