Children of the ’90s, listen up! We all know that “Rugrats” was top notch, quality viewing for children (and even adults). The character development, the complexity of the storylines, the animation. It was magic. And truth be told, those characters live on in a piece of us. I could blame that last sentence on holiday sentimentality, but it’s the truth. If it weren’t the internet wouldn’t be going nuts over a series of illustrations artist Pedro Fequiere created for BuzzFeed along with the updated bios written by Morgan Shanahan or perhaps both Fequiere and Shanahan together. Either way, according to the imagination of these two, there have been some pretty interesting developments over the years as each of the cast members grew up to have children of their own. And you won’t believe who our girl Susie ended up marrying.
Get into all of it on the following pages.
Angelica
Angelica followed in her mother’s footsteps, diving into the corporate world as a CEO in the Cynthia corporation. The bio said that Angelica, unlike her mother, takes her daughter with her everywhere she goes.
Dil
Tommy’s baby brother Dil is the only cast member who doesn’t have any children. Honestly, that’s probably for the best considering he still lives at home with his mom and dad and has a YouTube channel where he talks about the benefits of herbal medicine, White boy dreads and all.
Tommy

Look at Tommy looking just like his Daddy Stu. Tommy ended up being a college professor and an awesome Dad who plays make believe with his daughter for hours. Ugh! Beautiful. We’ll get to Tommy’s boo thang in a bit.
Chuckie
Oh shoot, whose chocolate baby is Chuckie holding? More on that later. These days Chuckie is enjoying the success of his app Scaredy Stat, which tells you the likelihood of an event ending in injury or death.
Susie
Susie was our girl! Not only was she smart, she was caring, unlike her buddy Angelica. Susie was always the one to get people together, whether you were doing wrong and she had to check you or if you were feeling a little bit down and she helped to encourage and empower you. She also had an awesome little singing voice. With all of this potential, I was a little disheartened to read the Susie became a reality star after auditioning for “American Idol.” Susie could have been a motivational speaker, an author, philanthropist, I don’t know…anything really. Singer and reality tv star just don’t seem like enough. Still, her personal life is a bit more interesting. That little brown baby Chuckie is holding is Susie’s. And its the reason why the one in her arms has red hair. Yes, y’all. Chuckie and Susie, Susie and Chuckie.
As I told my coworkers, a part of me was like:
but another part of me was feeling:
Something about this works. As Lauren R.D. Fox said, “Susie was always riding for Chuckie and encouraging him when he felt different because of his red hair and freckles.”
I can’t lie, the more I think about it, the more I’m here for it.
Kimmy
Here’s how the BuzzFeed staff imagines Kimmy, Chuckie’s little sister these days.
“Kimi is a journalist who traveled the world after college before returning to her hometown to start her eponymous parenting blog. She reconnected with Tommy in her late twenties and is now pregnant with their second child.”
Kimmy and Tommy…I never would have thought. But I’m actually here for it.
You can see what the modern day Kimmy looks like here.
Phil
“Phil’s got two kids of his own and recently quit his job as a naturopath to be a stay-at-home dad. Together with his sister Lil, he is working to launch a line of meal replacement bars made from insect protein.”
You can see what he looks like here.
Lil
Here’s how the BuzzFeed staff imagines Lil these days.
“Always the earthy type, Lil’s now the helpful crunchy mom in your playgroup who works as a lactation consultant and is patiently waiting for her 3-year-old to wean.”
You can see what she looks like here.
Interestingly enough, one of the original storyboard artists for the show, Eric Molinsky, sees the Rugrats a little differently.
“We referred to them as lumpy babies for a reason. If we ever drew the Rugrats as being too cute, our executive producer would scold us. We were supposed to emulate the style of Eastern European animators — many of whom were brought over, with their sly wit and husky voices (they took a lot of smoke breaks.) When I worked on “All Growed Up,” a made-for-TV movie where the Rugrats imagined themselves in junior high, I tried to keep the awkwardness in tact.”
He provided his own interpretation of that he thinks they’d look like today. And they’re certainly less cute. Check them out here.
Head over to BuzzFeed to get the full bios and check out the rest of the drawings for these characters.
But what do you think of Fequiere and Shanahan’s interpretations of the characters and their stories? Are you here for Susie and Chuckie together?
