The weather may be cold and dreary outside, but things are certainly heating up at a movie theater near you. With just a day before the highly anticipated, BDSM-fest known as “Fifty Shades of Grey” hits theaters, we thought it only appropriate to break out some of our favorite love scenes from the big screen. But we’re not just talking about any love scenes. Here are some of the hottest, some of the steamiest and some of the most memorable love scenes in movie history. Enjoy!
The Notebook
We’ll start things off on the sensual tip. The Notebook is one of the most romantic movies of our generation with also one of the most compelling love scenes in modern movie history. When Noah and Allie finally give into their passion after years apart (and an unlikely reunion) our hearts soared and our eyes widened. And who doesn’t enjoy seeing a chiseled Ryan Gosling with very little clothing on?
Dirty Dancing
“Dirty Dancing” may be an unexpected inclusion on this list, but hear us out. There is nothing sexier than a man who can dance. So to see Patrick Swayze in all of his shirtless glory dancing with Jennifer Grey while on the cusp of making love … Well, suffice it to say, it got us excited.
9 1/2 Weeks
Kim Basinger has been a bastion of hotness since she first landed on our radar as a Bond girl in Never Say Never Again. As for Mickey Rourke, well, it takes a little more effort to remember his hot days. But either way, combining these two, both at their peak of hotness and stardom, in the erotic drama 9 1/2 Weeks was eeeeeverything. Which scene in particular got us into a tizzy, you ask? One word: Striptease.
Basic Instinct
Sharon Stone solidified her place in cinematic history with one well-timed leg cross. And while her flash undoubtedly steals the show in Basic Instinct, let’s not forget the hot and steamy sex scene that unfolds between Stone and a very virile Michael Douglas.
Unfaithful
Who wants to take a stroll down Diane Lane? Sorry to be crass, but we couldn’t help ourselves. But as for eye candy for the ladies, the always delectable Olivier Martinez definitely had us swooning (and seeing what Halle Berry must love about him). The inability of these two to keep their hands off of one another got us all types of hot and bothered in all the right ways.
Wild Things
Denise Richards. Neve Campbell. Pool. While there were many a memorable scenes in the campy classic, Wild Things, none stands out more than the girl-on-girl pool scene. While the triple kiss that included Kevin Dillon also turned the temperature up a bit in this film, it’s the two lovely ladies getting down and dirty that still has people talking.
Black Swan
Keeping the girl-on-girl action trucking along, Black Swan is probably one of the more interesting films on our list. A tour de force of intrigue in its own right, we’d be remiss not to zero in on the action that goes down between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman … literally. The scene was intense, s*xy, seductive, and honestly, a little bit creepy. But it still manages to get both men and women very, very excited.
Titanic
Who knew that one steamy handprint on a window would become the stuff of love scene legend? But that magical moment between Jack and Rose (played brilliantly by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet) solidified Titanic as a story for the ages, and this particular moment as a love scene for the ages.
Love & Basketball
Admittedly not the most conventional choice, but the love scene between Quincy and Monica was both sweet and s*xy. It’s not the overly-stylized sex scene that we’re accustomed to seeing out of most films. It’s honest, it’s simple, it’s even a little funny at times, and yet it’s incredibly effective in conveying the undeniable love and chemistry between these two characters. And it certainly doesn’t hurt matters that Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan are certifiable hotties.
Blue Is The Warmest Colour
While this movie could be debated over for years about its depiction of sex, there is no denying that the nearly 10-minute long passion fest between Adèle (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Emma (Léa Seydoux) will go down in history as one of the steamiest.
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Threesome. That word in and of itself is probably enough to land most movies in the hot and steamy category. And Y Tu Mama Tambien is no exception. While the entire movie takes an open and honest look at sex and relationships, the pivotal scene unfolds when friends, played by Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal, engage in some sexiness with Maribel Verdu–and with each other.
Spring Breakers
There is absolutely no way that we’d ever consider the pool tryst between Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and a cornrowed James Franco anything near romantic. But we’re not going to lie, we were surprisingly turned on by this threesome. Don’t judge us!
Original Sin
So realistic that some speculated that Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie had really done the deed on camera, Original Sin was a no-brainer to include on our hot and steamy love scenes list. The scene touches on it all: Tender caresses, intense love-making and raw passion. And with two people as gorgeous as Banderas and Jolie, it’s no surprise that we got a little hot while watching it.
