In 1983, “Flashdance” was trashed by movie critics but it ended up becoming a hit at the box office and became the third highest-grossing film of the year thanks to Jessica Beals’ turn as the young Alex Owens, a welder who dreams of becoming a professional dancer. Owens moonlights as an exotic dancer at night and Beals steals the show with her iconic dance scene that included just a chair and a waterspout above it. Jennifer Lopez paid homage to the dance scene in her “I’m Good” music video by doing a similar routine but she ended up being sued for copyright infringement.
