After getting in trouble with the law, these celebs on probation thanked their lucky stars for getting off light with sentencing.
Lindsay Lohan’s legal troubles have been well chronicled. After being arrested twice within a matter of months for possessing cocaine, transporting narcotics, and driving under the influence of drugs, the former child star was placed on three years’ probation. It took her no time to violate that order and since then LiLo has been arrested for swiping a $2500 necklace, clipping a pedestrian with her car and slapping a party-goer during a night out in Manhattan. After having her probation revoked on several different occasions, Lohan was ordered to complete 90 days in a rehab facility last year.
Chris Brown could do no wrong until he assaulted his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in February of 2009. He was given five years probation and since then, the “Don’t Judge Me” singer has been in and out of legal trouble. In addition to his public brawls with Drake and Frank Ocean, Brown was also arrested last fall for felony assault in D.C. Following his arrest, Brown voluntarily entered rehab but he was kicked out of the facility a couple months later. Appearing in court once again, Brown’s probation was revoked and he spent several months in jail before being released this past June.
When 50 Cent became a father for the first time, he vowed to leave the life of crime and drug dealing behind and focus full-time on becoming a rapper. Following the release of his platinum debut album “Get Rich or Die Tryin,” the Queens native found himself in trouble in 2002 after diving into the crowd to go after a concert goer who threw a bottle at him while he was up on stage. Fiddy was placed on two years probation. Last year, the rapper-turned-mogul was arrested for domestic violence but he copped a plea deal for one count of misdemeanor vandalism and was placed on three years probation yet again.
These days it’s hard to not see headlines and photos of Khloe Kardashian globetrotting all over the place with her rapper boyfriend French Montana. But way before the reality television star became a household name, she was hauled into a courtroom for a DUI arrest. Placed on three years probation, Kardashian violated it when she failed to complete alcohol education classes and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. However she was only in an orange jumpsuit for a few hours because she was back out on the street because of overcrowding.
Rapper Snoop Dogg has earned a reputation for being very laidback but the Cali native was facing some serious time in 2007 after his felony arrest for gun charges. Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, copped a plea deal and was placed on five years’ probation and ordered to serve 800 hours of community service. This wasn’t Snoop’s first time in serious legal trouble. During the start of his career, a young Snoop was facing a murder charge. He was eventually found not guilty.
Most people are well aware of Kanye West’s disdain for the paparazzi. Last summer the Chi-town rapper was arrested following his scuffle with a photographer at LAX airport. Charged with misdemeanor battery and grand theft, Yeezy pleaded no contest to the battery charged. He was placed on two years’ probation and ordered to undergo 250 hours of community service and 30 days of anger management.
Paris Hilton is all about her business now but before she grew into the mature woman we see today, the hotel heiress was a hard-partying socialite. In 2006, Hilton was placed on probation following her arrest for driving with a suspended license. She found herself in front of a judge again after she was arrested in Las Vegas for possession of cocaine in 2010. The former reality star was sentenced to one year of probation, 200 hours of community service, a $2,000 fine and ordered to complete a drug-abuse treatment program.
Mike Tyson came from a troubled past. He was arrested 38 times before he turned 14 years old. During the height of his career, the heavyweight champ also served some time in prison after being convicted of rape. And in 2007, Iron Mike was popped for narcotics possession. He was sentenced to 24 hours in jail, 360 hours community service, and three years probation.
Women fell hard for Hugh Grant’s British accent and his affable smile back in the day so his fans were shocked when the “Nine Months” star was picked up for soliciting a prostitute in L.A. in 1995. In town to promote the film, which was set to hit theaters just days before his arrest, Grant was cuffed after he was caught up in an undercover sting trying to pay for oral sex from hooker Divine Brown. The English actor was placed on two years probation.
Lately Michelle Rodriguez has been drawing attention to her personal life after photos of her canoodling with actor Zac Efron surfaced, but several years ago, the “Fast & Furious” star was in the media for other reasons. Rodriguez got off easy following a hit and run accident while driving under the influence and without a valid license. She was placed on three years probation but violated it twice. Once for driving while intoxicated in Hawaii while on location filming “Lost” and then again for failing to show up her court mandated alcohol education program and in addition to not completing community service.
Rapper DMX has had more run ins with the law than he has had hit songs. His career has been plagued by drug addiction and the Yonkers native has been in and out of police cuffs. He’s been arrested on a multitude of charges including cocaine and marijuana possession, traffic violations, animal cruelty, aggravated assault and gun possession. Dark Man X was even arrested for impersonating a federal agent while trying to carjack someone at JFK airport. His repeated parole violations have landed DMX in jail on several different occasions.
There’s no denying that actor Sean Penn has an angry streak. In 2008, the “Milk” star was caught on videotape kicking a paparazzi and he was placed on three years of informal probation. Penn was also picked up for assault during his marriage to ex-wife Madonna several times. In one instance he assaulted a photographer on a film set. Another time he was charged with felony domestic assault against the “Material Girl” singer but Penn was able to plead the charge down to a misdemeanor.
Shia LaBeouf was a former Disney star who became more famous than he could have ever imagined after starring in the blockbuster franchise “Transformers.” He’s also been in and out of trouble ever since he became a household name. In 2008, he was placed on probation after he totaled his pick up truck in a roll over accident. Even though the crash wasn’t his fault, LaBeouf arrested for driving under the influence. The “Even Steven” star may be placed back on probation. He was arrested last month for disorderly conduct and trespassing in Manhattan and is currently awaiting the outcome on that case.
Rapper Vanilla Ice was infamously held over the balcony by Suge Knight and his henchmen back in the day but the “Ice Ice Baby” rapper was one who was the aggressor when he was arrested for domestic violence. In 2001, he got into a fight with his wife and was placed on two years’ probation after police arrested him for putting his hand over her mouth and pulling out some of her hair. Seven years later, he was arrested again for a domestic dispute but the charges were dropped.
Winning an Emmy award would be the highlight of an actor’s career. That was the case with Kim Delaney who took home the gold for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “NYPD Blue.” But a low came in her life when she was arrested for DUI. Delaney was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after she refused to take a breathalyzer. The “Army Wives” star was placed on two years’ probation and was ordered to pay a $300 fine and attend a defensive driving course.
