We all clean out our Facebook friend list from time to time. But what about our real life friend list? If you find yourself stretched thin, worn out and frustrated with the people in your contact list, it may be time to do a little pruning. Here are a few friendships that you can put on pause to save your sanity.

Ghosts

A recent survey revealed that over half of Facebook users unfriended contacts because they never saw them in the real world.

It’s a good reason to cut off real friends too. If they turn down every invite you send their way, next time don’t bother. They’ll get their next invite after you get yours.

The Robots

Marketing robots are online “friends” who are actually automated promotional machines that only post shoe sales or burger deals and quickly get deleted.

If you have real-life friends you don’t hear from unless they want you to join a cause or come see their show, it might be time to save your energy and demote them from “friend” to “contact”.

Holier Than Thous

Facebook users frequently deleted friends with differing religious beliefs, or ones that they post about 10 times a day.

We all need spiritual friends, but if everything out of their mouths is a criticism and a Bible verse, ask yourself if they’re really your spiritual supporters or preaching down to you.

The “Watch Me Shines (So You Can Hang In My Shade)”

Bragging is the number one reason why people delete Facebook friends. Real life friends who only talk about how much better they’re doing are frustrating too. Put them on the back burner until they’re shine stops feeling like shade.

The Oversharer

When Facebook friends fill your feed with x-rated stories and other inappropriateness, you don’t hesitate to give them a warning and then give them the boot.

If your real life friends won’t respect your boundaries, stop dreading your time together. Just cut it out. If they really want to hang, they’ll apologize and get better at censorship.

Chronic De-Frienders

If someone deletes you from their Facebook page every time you have a disagreement, their next friend request will probably end up in limbo. Friends who threaten to cut you off after every little argument may not be worth the drama either.

The Friends of Your Ex

You cleared your Facebook Friends list after you broke up. The same things can happen with those people that fill your life with uncomfortable moments that remind you of your ex.

Your Ex

He said he still wants to be your friend so you answer his calls but it still hurts. If he’s off of your Facebook page, maybe it’s time for him to be out of your life as a whole.

Friends Who Never Like You Back

You support their posts, reach out to them but they never reach back. Are they worth the effort you give if they don’t give any back?

Friends Who Never Like Your Status

Not all of your Facebook friends have to like your status. Your real life friends should. If your real life friends can’t be bothered to support you and your successes, why spend the energy supporting theirs?

Nerve workers

Sometimes people just get on your nerves. If every post, Tweet, update and word out of their mouths makes you roll your eyes, it might be time to move on.

Friends Who Never Take Your Side

If someone likes a shady comment on your post, it can be grounds for un-friending them. Why not swap out real life friends who never take your side with some that are more supportive members of your team?

People Who Spread Your Business

Facebook “friends” who post embarrassing photos or tell your business in their status updates are a no, no. Real friends who spread your business and put you on the spot might be worth letting go of too.

The Selfie Absorbed

People who clog your feed with selfies can get the axe. The same is true for self-absorbed friends who never have time for you because they’re always talking about themselves.

Complainers

Depressing Facebook statuses are big day ruiners. Sometimes it’s a good idea to prune Debbie Downers in your everyday life if they only call you to bring your day down. Limit the energy you give them and encourage them to get help and you might brighten both of your lives.
