“Too Real for Reality TV”

Mel B. has a new reality show called “Mel B.: It’s A Scary World” that she and her husband Stephen executive produce. The show follows the former Spice girl as she navigates life as a wife, mom and businesswoman. Her two daughters Phoenix (11) and Angel (Eddie Murphy’s three-year-old) are super adorable, but even their cute little faces can’t save this show.  It’s a bit too normal. Fortunately for Mel B., her life doesn’t seem to have much drama. In this episode it’s a DISASTER because her husband makes a mistake ordering Phoenix’s graduation cake. Oh and Mel B. isn’t sure how she’s going to make it through the day because she has meetings and she’s going shopping with her daughter. Okay. It’s great that Mel B. and her husband were able to get this show and essentially use it as a marketing tool to get Mel B.’s name out there and keep her in the public eye, but this does not make for good television. There’s no drama and Mel B. isn’t a big enough star for viewers to be interested in the minutiae of her life.  I mean, if Beyoncé had a reality show and it had zero drama, it would still be the top rated reality show of all time because people are so interested in everything about her life. I don’t know that I’ll be checking for this show again. Is there any celeb who you think should get a reality show?
