D.C.-Area Jobless Rates Mixed
(Washington Business Journal) — The unemployment rate improved in D.C. and Virginia in September, but got worse in Maryland, according to Labor Department data released Friday. In the District, the September jobless rate was 9.8 percent, down from 9.9 percent in August. Virginia’s unemployment rate fell to 6.8 percent, down from 6.9 percent. Maryland’s September unemployment rate rose to 7.5 percent from 7.3 percent in August. Government jobs continue to lead the gains in area unemployment.
