MTA Eyes More Fare Hikes and Fees
(Crain’s) — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is planning more fare hikes and fees to try to close its ever-widening budget gap, transit officials say. Among the budget-closing measures under consideration is a $1 surcharge riders would have to pay every time they buy a new, refillable MetroCard from a vending machine. Officials hope to reduce the number of MetroCards that end up in the trash.
