Last night was the Met Gala, the annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in NYC. The theme for this year’s ball was “China: Through the Looking Glass,” so the stars were inspired by fashions from the far East. But were their looks a hit or a miss? We usually give you our two cents on the fashion moves of the stars, but this time around, we want to know your thoughts! Check out our favorite folks doing their thing on the red carpet and let us know if their ensembles were a hit or a miss.
Rocking custom Givenchy and the highest ponytail you ever did see, Bey was ready to come in and make a statement!
These looks were more than “interesting.” Depending on the materials mixed together, the colors, the fit, or just the overall look of an ensemble, these beautiful women made some especially tacky decisions when it came to fashion this year. We dig them for their respective talents, but we’re still kind of mad at them for not shielding our eyes from lace tragedies, shearling vests, and the mistake of walking the streets with no panties on, showing us their lady business. To them we politely say, “GIRL, stop!” Here are 10 outfits we just couldn’t get with this year…
Excerpt From Dec. 7:
“The actress/singer arrived to the Lucky Magazine Ninth Annual ‘Lucky Shops’ Event, which she hosted after covering the magazine’s newest issue, wearing a VERY interesting getup. Keeping warm in this cool New York fall weather, Hudson rocked some red leather shorts with black tights, a brown sweater and a chunky gray knit sweater. To accessorize, she threw on black booties, a few diamond rings and some diamond stud earrings. The hair looked great!”
While the hair and make-up was a winner for Jennifer, this outfit? Never again. The leather shorts and the granddaddy sweater and the stockings are just really not meant to be part of one ensemble all together like that. A lovely girl, but this outfit from a few weeks back had us ready to fall out and give up on her for good in the fashion department.
What were you wearing this week? Be glad that you’re not one of these celebrities whose looks for the week shall be critiqued to the nines. But you know I try and keep it real and leave the ugliness at the door. Hey, I said I try. Let’s check out what these fab ladies were wearing from London to LA and NYC. I can’t promise that it will be pretty on each page, but it WILL be interesting!
Model and reality personality Eva Pigford showed up for the Voli light vodkas event in West Hollywood brightening up the black carpet with her hot pink dress. The body hugging look was on its mini-skirt ish and had a turtleneck and long sleeves (maybe a bit longer than 3/4). She accessorized with black fingerless leather gloves that had spikes all over them, as well as a black choker with multicolored studs and black leather boots that were of course, heels.
Shout out to what could possibly be box braids on her head (hey, they might be Senegalese twists instead) and the fun long pink nails. And while I love the hair and the nails, I’m not sure if I’m feeling the outfit. The hot pink color is already a lot, but the fact that the dress doesn’t know whether or not it wants to dress her for summer, fall or winter (see the short skirt, 3/4 sleeves and turtleneck to understand the joke–in that order) throws me off. Plus, it’s tight, so tight that you can see the bra she maybe should have passed on. Love Eva, but not this outfit. STOP.
Another week, another opportunity to showcase or skewer the unique looks of the stars. Who was looking fabulous in their attire and who was looking like a fail? Let’s take a quick look and find out.
I know what you’re thinking: “Solange is in a “Style To Steal” damn near every week! Well, I blame her for being a mainstay on red carpets and staying out of the house in her most stylish stuff. This week, Knowles showed up at the Ermenegildo Zegna ‘Essenze’ Collection Launch event in NYC in this champagne dress with two slits in the front that showed off her toned legs. The sleeveless jersey dress was accented with strappy snakeskin heels, a gold cuff, a variety of rings, and a square gold and white clutch.
I love the idea of Solange’s big hair, and I do appreciate the size, but as for the consistency of the curls, it could be a bit more uniform. But her look as a whole is hot! Very disco ’70s with a modern flair and the make-up is flawless! Winner in my book. Steal!
Before we all took a break to chomp down on Turkey (or whatever it is that your familia eats in your home on Thanksgiving), fashionistas were trying to be seen on the red carpet at the 40th annual American Music Awards in Los Angeles this past Sunday. From sheer dresses to ensembles with a bright sheen, everybody did something different that turned heads. Now were the heads turning for good or bad reasons? Let’s take a look at four of the looks that caught my eye and figure it out!
Miss Kerry Ba-by (just kidding) arrived to the awards show rocking a very unique sheer Stella McCartney dress covered in floral details. Underneath the long-sleeved dress she wore a white slip and accessorized with coral pointed toe pumps and a small yellow clutch.
Though, per the usual, I would love if Kerry wore more form-fitting ensembles, once again, she does look great. The dress is a gorgeous color and the hair with the tucked curls is fab as well. Nice touch with the coral heels by the way. I would steal this and rock it any day!
Style To Steal Or Girl, Stop: Rita Ora Pays Homage To The Matrix, Rihanna Does Black On Black And More
What were you wearing this week? If it’s anything like what the five women chosen this week had on, you might have made some smart style choices–or some big a** fails. Let’s take a look at the most interesting ensembles of the week and figure out who looked fab and who failed. Shall we?
Rihanna arived at her Halloween party this week at Greystone Manor in West Hollywood looking very dark but very diva on the red carpet. Of course, this wasn’t her costume, but she wore this black on black ensemble to accept an award for being “Queen of West Hollywood.” Random I know. Anyway, for the occasion, she showed up in a black ribbed tank, a black skirt with lace panels and sheer booties to top it all off. Back to her half-shaven hairstyle, the singer made sure to give her look some extra pop (before she put the crown on) with a hot red lip. While some strappy heels or even a pair of heels with some color really would have taken this look to the next level, I don’t dislike it. It’s simple but still snazzy and I absolutely dig the skirt. I probably would have put this look together differently, but it’s not too bad. Steal.
