D’Angelo Performs “Sometimes It Snows in April” For Prince, Gets Choked Up

Okay, our title may be a little harsh, on second thought. Jazmine Sullivan and Anthony Hamilton and his Hamiltones singing “Adore” was also pretty awesome. And Fantasia and The Color Purple cast’s rendition of “Purple Rain”? They gave us goosebumps. But after watching, you will have to admit that this performance by D’Angelo of “Sometimes It Snows in April” from the Parade album just pulls at the heartstrings like no other. It makes it even more indisputable that Prince truly is no longer here, which just makes one want to cry…

The performance took place last night during Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. D’Angelo, accompanied by Princess, the cover band led by comedian Maya Rudolph, performed enshrouded in purple light. And while the entire performance was moving, perhaps the most poignant moment came when D changed the lyrics near the end to “I often dream of heaven and I know that Prince is there,” and then proceeded to get choked up.

For those who wasted no time giving suggestions for stars to perform in a Prince tribute at the upcoming BET Awards, D’Angelo (along with the likes of Miguel and Janelle Monàe) have always been at the top of our list. The musician has always spoken of the influence Prince’s musical abilities had on him and his desire to be a renaissance man of sorts. As he said about being inspired while working on his debut album, Brown Sugar, “I was one of those guys who read the album credits and I realized that Prince was a true artist. He wrote, produced, and performed, and that’s the way I wanted to do it.”

D’Angelo and The Purple One were friends. And who could forget D’Angelo’s fantastic cover of “She’s Always in My Hair“? With all these things in mind, it only makes sense that he would be called upon to perform and that in the midst of doing so, would be hit with an overwhelming sense of sadness over the loss of his beloved friend and idol. Check out the performance for yourself below, as well as D’Angelo’s impromptu rendition of “Venus De Milo“:

“Brandy Little Sister Lame”: Kanye Finally Responds To Ray J’s “I Hit It First”

Kanye West Ray J

When Ray J dropped “I Hit It First” in April, the consensus for folks with good sense was that Brandy’s little brother had stooped to a new low. Not only was Ray J lying in the track, but it was a tacky display altogether, “kissing and telling” on an individual who is clearly happy in a new relationship, and was at the time, with child. Kim Kardashian never responded to such foolery, and surprisingly, Kanye West never opened his mouth (not even in his controversial sit-down with Kris Jenner) about the wack track…until now.

While performing his song “Bound 2” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon from the Yeezus album, and backed by Charlie Wilson, the Roots and a talented boy’s choir, the rapper opened the song with a new lyric. The original opening line is, All them other ni**as lame, and you know it now, but on the show, he started with “Brandy little sister lame and you know it now.” It was his first live performance of the song ever and the first time he ever stepped on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon stage, and he used such an opportunity on a stage that could be seen by a national audience to basically say “F U” to Ray J. The “One Wish” singer isn’t too fond of people trying to diss him (I’m sure you recall the squabble he had with Fabolous a few years back over some Twitter comments), so I wouldn’t be surprised if he responded. But he’s definitely done enough talking already…

Check out the performance of “Bound 2” (which is actually pretty good–Charlie Wilson kills it!) and let us know what you think!

Robin Thicke Recreates “Blurred Lines” With The Roots Using Children’s Instruments On “Jimmy Fallon”

Robin Thicke

As if you you couldn’t love “Blurred Lines” enough already, on last night’s episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Robin Thicke teamed up with Fallon and The Roots to have a jam session and recreate the song using children’s instruments. We’re talking colorful xylophones, maracas, kazoos, ukeleles, plastic flutes, cowbells, a guiro, and more. Black Thought filled in for TI on the rap part, and a very enthusiastic Fallon filled in for Pharrell to do back-up vocals. Safe to say, they killed it, and it just so happened to be adorable.

This isn’t the first time Jimmy Fallon has performed popular songs with children’s instruments and other interesting tools. He did so with Carly Rae Jepsen for “Call Me Maybe,” Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” and “Your Body” with Christina Aguilera. Thicke appeared on the show to promote his new album, Blurred Lines, which came out on July 30 and is expected to go number one (*fingers crossed*) and has been all over the talk show circuit to remind folks, including you, that they need to support a fella. Check out the video below and let us know if you love their performance as much as we do!

Justin Timberlake hasn’t moved units this large since he was rocking a perm and doing the stomp dance in ‘N Sync. Matter of fact, aside from Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and maybe Eminem, nobody is selling many copies of anything, let alone going damn near platinum in a week. That should tell you something. Well, three things:

The album is VERY good.

Promotion for the album was also VERY good.

And the fans were tired of waiting for some new music–and they finally got it.

NeNe Leakes Confirms That She’s Getting Married, Again, And Talks Donald Trump Claiming He Started Her Career

After 17 years of knowing each other, money coming in and money going, stardom coming for NeNe and sista girl taking the lead in her relationship, and Gregg claiming fame went to her head, things obviously got messy between NeNe and Gregg Leakes. After 13 years of marriage, it seemed the reality TV curse hit and before you knew it, the two were divorcing in 2011. But if you follow Real Housewives of Atlanta, you know that the two have been getting cozy with one another once again. In the latest season, Gregg seems to be head over heels for his ex, and we even had to bear witness to a conversation about whether homeboy loved her or not. Leakes made it known in a recent interview that she felt like Gregg wanted to run around and sow his oats, and once he realized he was missing out on a good thing (her), he came running back. The two are clearly so much in love once again that reports said that Gregg proposed to NeNe, possibly on New Year’s Eve, hoping she would say yes a second time around.

But it wasn’t until an interview on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night that Leakes actually opened up about the proposal, and confirmed that she was indeed going to be a bride once more. When asked if she was engaged, homegirl said, “WELL, a little after midnight, I was asked this beautiful question: ‘Will you marry me–again?'” And of course, she said yes. Looking very cute in her tweed-ish dress on Fallon’s couch, she lit up when talking about Gregg and their romantic New Year’s Eve, which included rose petals on her beach condo floor, as well as strawberries, wine, and a heart made out of stones on their bed. It’s good to see that they’re looking to work things out, but hopefully Gregg will be more secure with NeNe’s fame, because she only seems to be going up from here…Congrats again!

And on a side note, NeNe also chatted with Jimmy about folks like Donald Trump and Andy Cohen coming on his show claiming they started her career and helped to make it what it is now. When Fallon told Leakes about how Trump said such a thing, and then Andy Cohen came on his show claiming that Trump was confused, and that HE made Real Housewives of Atlanta, and in turn, shaped her career, she politely shut all that down. “Well, you know I’m friends with both Andy and Donald Trump, I’ve worked with Donald for a long time and I’ve obviously worked with Andy Cohen, but uh, NeNe Leakes started NeNe Leakes’ career.” Well, if you didn’t know, now you know!

Solange Performs “Losing You” For Jimmy Fallon, Pulls Out Her Best Dance Moves And Diana Ross Wig

Solange is out in these streets trying to tour to promote the recent release of her well-received EP, True. She’s performing at the Bowery Ballroom tonight, and in a recent stop to our main man Jimmy Fallon’s show, the singer, her producer Dev Hynes and her funky band put on a pretty colorful performance of “Losing You” for viewers. Not only was Solange bedecked in all green everything with her printed blazer and matching button down, fly slacks and chunky platforms, but the hair was huge! With her gold jewelry and dance moves, I think Solo was going for Diana Ross fab-ness a la the mid to late ’70s. While the fashion was on point, the music was also up to par, as the performance did the recording of “Losing You” justice, because after a shaky start when singing the track, Solange ended up bringing her A-game vocally. Almost makes me wish I would have picked up tickets to her Bowery Ballroom show for tonight, but a sista has got Christmas gifts to buy, so hey, this will have to do. Check out Solo’s performance and her fresh two-step below and let us know what you think of it all. Homegirl is definitely in her own lane right now doing her own thing and we’re not even mad at her!

Reason 1,983,478,223 Why We Love President Obama: He Slow Jams the News

April 25th, 2012 - By Veronica Wells

President Barack Obama isn’t as funny as his wife Michelle, but he’s nothing to sneeze at either. We saw him partner with late night host, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots to slow jam the news. Sure, The Roots and Jimmy Fallon took care of the funnies but the President held his own by nodding and [awkwardly] dropping the mic at the end of the set. We love it! If this is how the race to White House is getting started, then Obama shouldn’t have a problem.

Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Jackie Christie and Miss Piggy (YES, You Read Right)

"Jackie Christie fashion"

Now that we can finally get a break from all things Basketball Wives (and start watching the drama of Love & Hip-Hop), a lot of people have been happy to also get a break from Jackie Christie (I had such high hopes for her when that show started, but alas, she has no act right). Well, that break is about to get interrupted really quick, because it’s time we analyze her fashion sense.

The reality TV personality and VERY committed wife of Doug Christie showed up at The Q by Pasquale fall 2011 collection viewing party last night in LA wearing this very, very short black dress that stopped mid-thigh and seemed to be an off-the-shoulder number. Arms out, legs out, homegirl definitely was trying to show off a little something, something to somebody. To have some fun with this outfit, which looks like it may be made out of velour, she paired it with the multi-colored, printed heeled knee-high boots. Her jewelry was minimal with a gold bangle, and some ring bling, and her hair looked fab with a bobbed look accented by swept bangs.

"Jackie Christie fashion"

I’ll say this. If she was ever going to wear those boots with anything, a solid color like black is probably the best bet. However, I hate this LBD. It looks like a potato sack someone threw velour on, cut the hem really short for, and then lied and said you could wear it off the shoulder. The boots, which I’m hoping were a shoe from this Q by Pasquale glass shoe line, were doing the absolute most.  As I said, her makeup and hair looks good, but something about this ‘fit is sloppy looking in a way. Not trying to be mean in saying that…it just does.

"Miss Piggy fashion"

And I thought I would take this opportunity to also do a style eval of one of my favorite people…er, Muppets! Miss Piggy stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with her longtime on and off boo, Kermit the Frog. She wore a tasteful long skirt, a v-neck jacquard-esque top that showed off a little cleavage, and some leopard print gloves. And of course, we can’t forget that Miss Piggy stepped out in her Louboutin peep-toe pumps and some pearls! Per the usual, her hair was curled and fab, and her makeup was eyelash-alicious. It’s a rarity you actually get to see Miss Piggy’s legs crossed, hell it’s a rarity to see her legs at all, so getting to see her shoe game is exciting since she’s is the most fashionable muppet ever. All in all, there are a lot of prints going on for this fit, and I probably wouldn’t recommend it to be worn out in these streets by folks of the human form. But for a puppet, I think she looks damn good, right? STEAL!
