Hey Shonda (And The Other Writers): Harrison…Remember Him?

"Harrison"

ABC

Gladiators, can we have a moment to talk, please?

Do the writers think that because so many other things have been going on with the show we have forgotten than Harrison Wright’s (played by Columbus Short) personal life and past has been virtually ignored? That’s not what’s happening, is it?

I thought that since we are in the midst of a three week Scandal hiatus (that hate mail goes to ABC, not to Shonda Rhimes or ShondaLand), it would be a good time to discuss a very important matter.

Back in February, The Hollywood Reporter did an interview with Rhimes and they asked her what was going on with his character. Her response was:

I consider Harrison to be the gun on the wall that we haven’t fired on purpose. The story of Harrison and his past — he used to work for Adnan Salif and then he went to jail — that thing that’s going to unfold, that’s a giant story that we want to unpack when it suits us most. We’ve been holding onto it. We will be getting glimpses and hints as to what’s to come.

Two weeks later, I tweeted him right before the first three week hiatus this year asking if Harrison would get a storyline this season and he told me, “It’s coming.” Now, what he said to me isn’t as important as what Shonda said but I wanted to point it out anyway just in case any of you thought you had an e-chance with him. You don’t, we go together as of February 21st. I thought I’d put that out there now.

Back to Shonda’s answer. I get that Shonda and the writing team don’t work in a way that’s best conducive to us as viewers. If you do that, you’ll never satisfy everyone and probably hate the show as the creators/writers. So, I do get it.  However, that interview was posted in early February so where are the glimpses and hints?  I don’t think we’ve missed anything; all Harrison has been doing is working, working, working.

We’ve only seen him in the office asking Olivia what she wants him to do, almost like a right hand man.  When he’s not doing that, he’s busy reminding Abby and Quinn that they’re “gladiators” and sometimes, questions don’t need to be asked. Wait.  Is the latter a clue?  I guess it could be but no one there really asks questions (besides Quinn) so that can’t be it.  It’s fine to be Olivia’s right hand or be the “cheerleader” when the team is starting to question why they’re still involved in the company. But it’s not fine to be just that when there’s clearly more to him than that and the ability to be a lady charmer when necessary.  I’m just really lost about this whole thing.

The reality is that there will only be four episodes left in season two when Scandal returns on April 25th. Yes, four episodes is more than enough time for a Harrison storyline to unfold but is that going to happen? Look at what he’s up against: (1) Huck and Quinn looking like they might have a late night hook up; (2) David, Abby and their unresolved issues in their love affair and; (3) we don’t know who the hell Jake is and why he’s been stalking Olivia.  The last one alone is likely going to take up most of the episodes since Olivia is the main character.

This is not looking good.  I mean, a fine and smart brother like that is getting no shine in Washington, D.C.?  Chocolate City?  Am I the only one who thought he was going to get with the black woman who was an executive at the company on the March 21st episode (the one where the woman had the affair with the Supreme Court Justice candidate)?  They let that one go too.

Let’s be clear: I’m still here for Scandal. It’s a smart show with a super fly lead character.  I just want to know when the brother will get some love – or hell, some hate.

What do you say? Do you think we’ll get any insight on Harrison’s background when the show comes back? What would you like to see happen with him?

Everyone loves to hate on celebrities! After all, how else are we going to feel better about ourselves when we make mistakes if we don’t see examples of others making mistakes that are ten times worse? Well, guess what? Sometimes it starts to get a little repetitive constantly ragging on the same celebrities, especially when the situation might not be as bad as it seems. Let’s have a look at some celebrities who deserve a break…not all the time, but at least sometimes…

Bobby Brown

It seems like everyone always wants to blame Bobby Brown for introducing Whitney Houston to drugs, but now that it has officially been revealed that it was  Whitney’s brother who introduced her, it’s time to cut him some slack. Don’t take this the wrong way, yes he did do a lot to Whitney in their tumultuous 14-year marriage, but it’s time to acknowledge that he is not the one primarily responsible for her drug addiction. Bobby Brown was indeed telling the truth when he claimed he never introduced Whitney to drugs.

Keke Palmer is gearing up to portray Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas in the VH1 TLC biopic.

Many fans of the famous girl group were not happy with the director’s decision to cast KeKe and they let her know it on twitter, facebook and several blogs.

You know, celebrities seem to take the place of any real news these days. So its no wonder that whenever you see that one particular star, you want to turn the channel if you’re watching tv, turn the page if you’re reading or turn the radio down if you’re listening. The thing is, sometimes we don’t even know why we don’t like the person…they just rub us the wrong way!

I really hate when I, a music junkie, am made to suffer because members of my favorite groups cannot seem to get along.  Selfish? Perhaps but when you’re in a group, you have to realize that there is someone who’s the better singer or performer and you cannot let the group suffer because you’re all up in your feelings. Check out some of our favorite groups who have let ego, pride, anger, jealousy and anything else you can think of get in the way of us enjoying them together.

Chris Brown

Ever since Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna, he’s become public enemy number one for a slew of people. The media and fellow celebrities have gone in on him for winning Grammy’s, lip synching, Twitter feuds and not really having a single eff to give about not being Mr. Congeniality. Although Rihanna has clearly forgiven and forgotten, for some reason, the public thinks they have reason to hold on to their grudge. Chris will never again be the cute boy next door. Too many people want him out of the neighborhood.

Brandy in YRB Magazine - Source: http://freshlikedougie.com

Brandy’s got a new look ya’ll.

Yes, “The Boy is Mine” singer, best known for Moe-to-the-E-to-the…has ditched the long weaves and her signature temple-pulling braids and has returned to sporting a more mature look, complete with a cute little pixie cut for her YRB Magazine shoot. Oh yeah, and she just so happens to be like five shades lighter – at least in a couple of the pictures. Seriously, a couple of the pictures have completely washed out her lovely skin, making her about the same complexion as Beyoncé – after Destiny’s Child of course.

I don’t know if it is intentional or if it is a matter of poor lighting. I’d like to think it is the latter considering we see this sort of improper exposure use to photograph dark skin in so many photo shoots. Fairly recently, Beyoncé found herself again at the center of a skin- lighting scandal when promotional pictures were released of her with a markedly lighter and pale complexion in her face and upper body. That too, had been attributed to the lighting used in the studio. Maybe. Without definite proof, it is all speculation. However, I cannot recall an instant where black celebrity men had the same lighting issue. In their instance, they usually show up on the cover of magazines true to color – if not darker (hey O.J.).  Things that make you go hmm…

Lighting aside, there is something more bothersome about Brandy’s pictorial. No, not another conspiracy, but this is actually intentional and obvious. In short, it’s the nose. I know it’s been a long time since we’ve seen Brandy on the scene, but I’m pretty sure that is not the nose she was born with.  In fact, that nose doesn’t even look natural, very Latoya Jackson-esque. Did she get a nose job? Is it the lighting again? Nope, that’s the old makeup trick of contouring and shading.

I’m grateful to have had some kind of steady employment since the age of sixteen, and with the job scarcity that exists in the present day of this country, people no longer have the luxury of jumping from one job to the other. For this reason, thousands of Americans are overworked, underpaid and filled with a daily anxiety of having to report to a job that they truly despise just to maintain their lifestyles. Hopefully a few small changes can make the difference between you getting your bills paid and not losing your mind. Check out a few ways to cope with a job you can’t stand.
