The other night my husband, who will be a groomsman in a wedding this summer, told me that wives and girlfriends are invited to the bachelor party. I don’t really get the point of all that. Why call it a bachelor party?
I’m shooting some serious side eye at the blurring of gender roles and this new breed of man who seems to have disregarded all traces of traditional masculinity. What are they gonna do at the so-called bachelor party, sip Cosmos, nibble finger sandwiches and dance to “Single Ladies”? I thought the point of these parties was for men to celebrate the last days of bachelorhood.
I adore the bride and groom, but I’m not going to this thing. I’ll be home doing girlie stuff and thinking about the days when couples didn’t have to engage in every blessed activity together. My husband will happily maintain his dignity by showing up at the bachelor party stag like a real man.
As one of the married Madames I know said, the only females at the bachelor party should be the entertainment.
