When Talima Davis set out to create a line of simple products with diverse uses, she started with what she know best: memories of an unfiltered way of life and the homemade remedies of her grandmother. “There was something special about the land in North Carolina and what was produced there. Fresh ingredients, hand-picked as needed — this allowed us to barely go into town,” recalls Talima. “If there was a need for something or someone was ailing, we knew my grandmother, Catherine Moore had a home remedy for it. As a child I looked on as she sprinkled baking soda in our sneakers, cleaned just about everything with vinegar or tied string to the windows, which I later learned was to keep the pigeons at bay. Who knew?”

And so Limegreen was born. Mommynoire loves to share stories of women who have created their own paths in life, so we were especially excited to meet Talima who chatted with us recently about her passions and products.

How did you come to the beauty industry? Have you always had an interest in natural and organic beauty products?

Our journey in the beauty industry was actually by accident, when Limegreen was first conceived, we wanted to be a cleaning company such as all-purpose cleaners and detergents. (I love laundry). After I learned more about organic ingredients, I started making room sprays. People felt they smelled great, and started asking for them in different beauty applications, such as candles and oils.

How did you and Allison Lamb come to work together?

Both of us graduated from Art colleges (I, from Pratt Institute and Allison from Montserrat College of Art). We’ve worked on a couple of projects together for various clients – designing websites, marketing materials… it was an easy decision to work together. Plus, we happened to be married.

Congrats! So when was Limegreen created? What was your source of inspiration?

Limegreen creations began in 2008, but became an official company in 2010. We started by selling to family and friends, but really made a conscience decision that this was going to be our future after my cousin passed in May of 2012. My best friend Tamara, whom I called my sister, passed in 2008 from cancer. That was so hard to deal with, especially because the doctors said that something environmentally sped up the spreading. And when my cousin, Tavasia passed from cancer too… that was it for me. The next day was my last day at work, and began our full push to make Limegreen succeed.

What are the key ingredients in your collection?

Vegan products, organic oils, wild harvested and organic essential oils are key to making our products. We try to source the best ingredients, so that we can supply our customers, friends and family with the best products.

What about the branding of Limgreen? How did you come up with the name and beautiful packaging?

Limegreen’s name is derived from my name Talima. My sister called me Lima, so a friend said call your company Lima Green. As soon she said that Limegreen came to mind. As fas as the packaging, we wanted something that allowed the product to speak for itself, nothing too flashy, but would allow for the best experience, ease of use, less waste and more opportunities for reuse.
