If Disney Princesses Were Black…

We finally got our very own black princess when Disney released “The Princess and the Frog” in 2009, but wouldn’t it be cool to see all of Walt Disney’s leading ladies with a little more color? A 22-year-old college student named Lauren thought so, and so on her blog she “made a bunch of white Disney characters into WOC. Just for funzies :D

The Huffington Post caught on to her brilliant idea and we thought it was too cute not to share her reimaged pics of Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, Cinderella, Snow White, and even Jessica Rabbit flaunting darker skin hues. Lauren didn’t touch Pocahontas, Jazmine, or Mulan since they are already women of color, but it’s pretty neat to see the typical red- and blonde-haired characters remixed just a tad to reflect our growing multi-racial society.

Here are a few of our favs, check out more on Lauren’s Tumblr page. What do you think?

    Beautiful pics. A talented artist.

If she were white, white people wouldn’t watch and probably be mad. And black people will mad because she isn’t white. There you have it.Just like if you take down that white Jesus and put up a blue black Jesus with a nappy head black people would stop attending that church.

    • shelshel

You got that from shahrazad ali off of “hidden colors” nice choice in a film. But you have to admit they all included jesus looks wonderful in brown skins :-) I love my people of color. Beige, tan and etc is nice as well

      • get real

Yeah I heard Umar Johnson from Hidden Colors say that but is he not teling the truth?

        • dddooonnnttt

He’s not. I’ve almost exclusively attended churchs with Black Jesus’. Which is closer, but still not an accurate depiction.

dipping them in chocolate doesn’t make them black.

    • dddooonnnttt

They aren’t all supposed to be black, WOC. Could be Asian, Pakistani, Inuit….. Also, let’s stop referring to ourselves as ‘chocolate’.

  • Nope

Well, we all know the Little Mermaid couldn’t be Black…….

    • dontdoit

      I don’t get it. Why?

      • Nope

        Because Black women don’t swim.

I was thinking cause black people don’t like water. But alrighty then.

        • dddooonnnttt

Stop focusing on what ‘black people don’t..’ do and start discovering things that black people CAN do.

  • sabrina

    They look beautiful! lol

  • dontdoit

    Love!

I like this, but I’d rather have something new like Tiana was. I’m sure there are a bunch of folk tales out there itching to be splashed with color.

Tiana spent most of the movie as a frog… I’m not quite over that yet.

I dont think all of these are supposed to be black. She just said women of color…and that could mean anything. Nevertheless I actually think they look better this way.

    • IllyPhilly

Agreed. That’s why I liked that show that use to come on HBO. It had a plethora of races in the usually lily fairy tales. I forget the name.

      • brownreclusebeauty

Happily Ever after fair tales for every child…O loved that show as a kid

        • IllyPhilly
