It’s National Selfie Day! Yup, that’s a thing now (I mean, are you surprised?) The first National Selfie day was celebrated in 2014, and was created by a DJ but now, it’s a phenomenon! In fact, it has a site that support charities. Selfies have gotten a bad reputation over the years, with people condemning them for being egotistical and narcissistic. But, like with any trend that takes off, I think it’s the people who do it/use it—and how they use it—that make that trend what it is. Sure, some people just use selfies to be told how hot they are, but there are plenty of productive, positive ways to use selfies, too! Let’s not forget that, before the selfie existed, people did post photos of themselves online—they just had someone else take the picture. We’ve always posted pics of ourselves, but now, with selfies, maybe we can be more aware of how we use them. Here are ways you can use selfies to inspire people.
Post a selfie while volunteering
Do you do volunteer work? Post a selfie with the other volunteer with whom you serve food at the soup kitchen, or the children you tutor for free at a youth center (with their parents’ permission). Inspire others to volunteer!
