(TheLoop21.com) — Even before the Civil War, there was the Black entrepreneur, the foundation of a commerce that would flourish over the next 100 years. Its foundation was built upon manufacturing, stores, real estate, banking and insurance. By 1876, some five million black southerners had purchasing power of $300 million. By 1900, the total wealth of slightly more than ten million blacks was $700 million.
