Toothpaste, Toilet Paper And Water: 7 Ways To #BuyBlack
After the recent attacks against Black bodies, it’s clear that this country is still struggling to accept the humanity of its Black citizens. And while we may feel helpless in the face of it all; if they won’t respond to our humanity, perhaps they’ll be motivated by our money. If you’ve been on social media for the past few weeks you might have seen your friends and even a few Black celebrities, (looking at you Killer Mike), calling for the building and support of Black banks and Black businesses.
We all know hair, beauty, fashion and restaurant brands but what about our everyday needs. I was watching one woman who was advocating for the support and uplift of the Black community through Black businesses, but she also acknowledged that she didn’t know of a Black company that made toilet paper. And we all know how we need toilet paper.
So after a bit of research, I’ve compiled a list of Black companies that provide products and services for you essential, everyday use.
When I wake up the morning the first thing I do is hit the bathroom. I find the day goes much smoother if I’ve used the bathroom that morning. And I do mean use the bathroom. And for that you’re going to need some TP. Is there a Black company that makes toilet paper? Yes ma’am!
The Freedom Paper Company makes all types of paper and cleaning products and supplies. I’m talking about 2 ply toilet paper y’all. They also make ultra soft facial tissue, paper towels, trash bags and other cleaning products.
You can 24 rolls of Freedom tissue for just $20.
After you hit the toilet, it’s best to move to the shower. And in there, you’ll need some body soap. Flo + Theo, a soap company owed by two Black women, has what you need. Facial soaps, body soaps and body oils. And the best thing about these soaps, which I use every morning is that all of the ingredients are natural. So there won’t be any irritation.
If your vagina could use a little bit of extra love, Honey Pot Fresh could be what you’re looking for. This organic feminine care company will have you living right. The feminine washes contain organic lavender water, grapefruit seed extract, garlic and coconut oil soap. The company also sells pads, wipes and probiotics.
Got to make sure your breath is right for the day. Natty Naturals has a toothpaste for you. Unlike most conventional toothpastes, this is not a paste per se, it’s a powder. The tooth powder includes Kaolin Clay, baking soda, Stevia Leaf, Clove Powder, Licorice Root, Lavender, Myrrh, Spearmint and more. You add the powder to your wet toothbrush and get to work. They also have an oral mouth rinse. If you want the paste feel, add the powder to coconut oil.
You better not come out of the house without some deodorant and there is a Black company that will make sure you aren’t stanking when you come out the house. Their product Funk Butter, made from all natural products, is what you need. The baking soda is said to absorb the odor and the vegetable powders and Kaolin clay are to help keep you cool.
That takes care of your morning routine. But here are a few extras.
We need it to live. And if you’re like me, you like to keep a bottle or gallon on deck. The Supreme Spring Water company sells for $1.50 a bottle and $14.00 per case.
You have to keep your clothes clean. And there are some Black folks who will help you do that. True Detergent is safe for sensitive skin, was not tested on animals, contains no animal byproducts. And as a bonus, the product is made in the U.S. and is owned by a veteran. One bottle sells for $8.99 and is good for 50 loads. You can purchase this brand on Amazon and the company’s website.
