I was deeply disturbed by a video I stumbled across while scrolling through my Facebook feed Thursday afternoon. The footage, which was filmed in the Bronx, depicts a horrible confrontation that broke out between three subway passengers on New York’s 2 train line. The video picks up shortly after an argument between two of the passengers began. According to Bronx resident Belle Porter, who posted the video to the social networking site, it all started over a seat.

“This lady was too big to sit in a small space next to the guy, he instead let his smaller coworker sit next to him,” Porter explained. “She then got upset, they threw insults back and [forth]. She then began to get into his face.”

In addition to getting in the man’s face, she continued to behave erratically—even standing in the way of the train car’s doors and screaming for someone to call 911.

“Move! We gotta go to work!” other passengers protested.

“Control her bro,” someone tells the woman’s boyfriend who seemed unsure of what to do.

Unfortunately, the feud did not end with insults. The woman took things a step further and spit at the man, which is when things to a violent turn. The man lunges at the woman’s boyfriend and proceeds to pummel him as passengers plead with him to stop. The woman’s boyfriend never defended himself and only used his arms to cover his head and protect himself from the attack. The woman watched the attack in shock along with the other passengers and only stepped between the two of them when the man appeared to be backing off.

Many of the people who commented on the footage pointed out how the woman’s boyfriend was completely innocent and noted that she did nothing to help him even though she was the one who started the fight in the first place.

“Why she let her boo get beat like that?” questioned commenter Cecilia Butler. “She started it and he got the a– whipping.”

When I showed the video to my coworkers, their reactions were the same. Some questioned why she didn’t try to help him. Of course, this led to the discussion of whether or not you should jump in a physical altercation to help a husband or boyfriend.  I’m not a fighter, but I personally wouldn’t think twice about jumping in a brawl if my man was getting his behind whooped—especially if the fight began because he was defending me. All of my coworkers agreed that they would do the same. While fighting a man, or anyone for that matter, is definitely not an ideal situation, it would be difficult to watch someone inflict physical pain on my fiancé while I stand there watching helplessly.

What about you? Would you jump in a fight for your man?
